Hey from Georgia

1
So honestly I just found this yesterday googling "liberal gun club." I'm in Georgia, so a bit lax on the gun laws but definitely surrounded by the "good ol boys" of Confederate flags and maskless Walmarts. I identify mostly libertarian, but left-leaning on topics like abortion, economy, minority rights, etc. Raised in a home where my parents and two older sisters are "stop the steal" kind of people, so somehow (by the grace of God, sheer luck, using more than 1 brain cell...something) I got out of that.

I've been trying so hard on social media to get otherwise rational people to even give me any evidence of antifa involvement in the Jan 6 Capitol incident. And yet it just seems the foolish wilfull ignorance grows even more. My oldest sister, e.g., was quite anti-Trump in 2015. Now her latest stuff is all stop the steal, antifa plants were in the Capitol, etc. I keep a running list of everyone I've seen identified there....so far all neo-nazis, 3%ers, skinheads, QAnon, Proud Boys, etc.

All this then I get a text from my other stop-the-steal sister saying to stock up on non-perishables and water because she has on good information there maybe a widespread power outage in the next couple of weeks. These people seem to fit the "if we can't have the country we want, no one can."

Unfortunately, these times shake my trust in people. Even coming here, I'm thinking, "who's a plant here, who's going to out me, hell, is this group just a front?"

Sorry for the verbal spewing. Hi.

Edit, oh and as far as guns owned I just have a couple of .22 rifles, one is a novelty item and one was mine as a kid but I haven't fired it in two decades. I know right now is the worst time to buy....but I am interested in something useful for home defense. Getting back into familiarization, etc. Would love to find a non-Trump-loving gun shop/range but don't know if those exist in GA.

Howdy from Houston!
Sounds like you have found the right place. There are going to be lots of people here that are going to chime in on your home defense options. Be prepared to answer lots of questions about your exact wants. There are so many options and just as many opinions. However, at this day and age finding firearms, not to mention ammo, is difficult to say the least. I wish the the best of luck finding one and then never having to use it.

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. GaDNR has a bunch of ranges around the state now and is pretty much apolitical. What part of the state do you hang out in?
To be vintage it must be older than me!

Looks like Chesnut Mountain DNR range is closes to me.

Yeah close-ish.

notice that there are BIG differences between liberalism and libertarianism, mostly involving the role of government in society. you may not be entirely comfortable here. nevertheless, :welcome:
Haha you're not wrong--"Libertarian" isn't the most genuine way to put it in regards to role of government; I much like the Nordic model of things in that regard. Was raised GOP in the Bible Belt, voted for Ron Paul, Gary Johnson. This election was the first I voted for a Democrat in a major election. The best way is that I'm open to learning and happy to find an environment that looks like it encourages diversity of opinion. I'm in the South where I was raised to believe that "liberal" and "gun person" were polar opposites. That there's even a "liberal gun club" would blow the minds of my family.

Haha you underestimate my BBQ fork skills...

I'd have to check the case. Honestly I'd be surprised if I did. It's sat in a case in the back closet for a very long time. The other .22 is a novelty item that I'll never shoot.

Welcome from the other side of 400!

I think we all received frantic texts this weekend from relatives about martial law and having cash and stocking up on food and water. At least everyone in the South probably did. :)

Something about Pence was in on the plan and the stolen Pelosi laptop provided evidence and Gitmo for Dems.... something something.

"Nordic" model and libertarianism? Please explain.

Nordic model like what Sweden/Finland/etc run.

And maybe I'm hiding behind "libertarian" and need to come out of the closet a liberal.
As a Finn and having lived there I can tell you their system is not libertarian. It is a mixture yes, supports enterprise, but also has a collective socialist element. The people expect the government to provide services, they expect to pay taxes to pay for those services, they generally believe in socialized medicine as prime healthcare provider, they believe unions are essential to negotiate between all parties and generally encourage unions. I was a union member as an architect. They believe in collectively negotiating all aspects of business and work, the government is a party within those negotiations. There is very little libertarian about the Finnish system. It borrows and was greatly influenced by the socialists, democratic socialists and even communists balancing against the interests of centrist, including larger land owners and business elites. Since I’ve lived there 10 years as an adult and eight as a child I saw the development and the fruits of those endeavors as an adult.

Welcome again. Face it you’re a democratic socialist, like me! LoL.

Regardless, I think I'll find myself more at home here than any other gun group.
Sit back and enjoy. Hopefully y’all can have a meetup in Georgia this year. We’re waiting for some measure of safety here in Texas before an official meet. Stay safe.

Yeah, I agree with sikacz. I lived in a Nordic country for a while. Libertarian is just another word for "selfish bastard" in that country.

There's definitely a difference between libertarian and liberal capitalist. There will be plenty of threads here for you to expand on your beliefs, should you be so inclined. Or ignore if that's your preference. What we won't do is threaten to shoot anyone because of their political affiliation. :) Welcome home.

There's a diversity of opinion on the utility of .22LR as a defensive round, but don't discount it. It's cheap, easy to practice with, comparatively quiet, accurate to at least 100 yards out of a rifle, and potentially lethal for over a mile. It meets FBI penetration standards out of a snubbie, but gains a lot out of a rifle-length barrel. It has similar one-stop shot ratios to much larger calibers, over 50%. Still, it's a small hole and it's less likely to stop someone quickly - the failure-to-stop numbers are high, too.

Which brings us to the question that's bothering us all - what is this novelty gun of which you speak? Pics? :) We like novelty. And guns. Guns are popular here. For reasons.

Hi from NJ! I have in-laws in Roswell, not to far.

Being accurate with a .22 is better than being inaccurate with a 9mm, .45, or AR-15.

Careful: The 1911 and CZ gang will be along shortly!

Hey, that's a novelty 22LR. It's no "life card" but it is a 22. :)

Life Card is a novelty 22LR...
