The Liberal Prepper Club!

As you might have noticed, prepping, like guns, has really picked up steam on the left lately. Lots of new people coming in with many common questions (the most common being, "where do I start?").

Most of this new activity has been on Facebook so far, but that platform has many limitations. Some of us got together and decided that it's long past time to have dedicated place for liberal preppers, in the vein of the Liberal Gun Club forum. And so, here it is! Come take a look.

Good idea

I'm putting together a small package for the natural disaster kind of scenario.
First aid kit, food for 3-5 days, ability to make fire, water containers, temp shelter and the like.
I'm not doing the WSHTF scenario with a full "Bugout" bag.
But yes there are skills we can use that over time were forgotten or not learned at all that help.
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.

:| Holding out much hope for it having any real value would be a fool's errand, though. There are just far too many prepper sites full of valuable information.

Looking at the link you provided has a disheartening firearms and lethal weapons section.

When I see things like the following I want to leave for one of those Mormon prepper sites where there is far more prepper content and people are not wringing their hands over semi-automatic carbines due to having been brainwashed by Democrats, celebrities and the media to hate and fear firearms based on appearance. Also, asking the police for legal advice is inviting trouble.
I am torn on what to do with the assault rifles. These include a 2 that are called AR-15s and one is called a WASR. One of the ARs is labeled on the side that it's for law inforcement use only, but the police department said it was still legal to own. From what the police said, the WASR and the AR15 shoot different bullets. I asked the police if they could dispose of the assault weapons and they didn't sound too excited about doing this.
 No. They are not "assault rifles" Dawg. Try again.
I am concerned about selling these assault weapons to the public through the auction. It just doesn't seem right and I don't want to have the guilt of thinking they could get into the wrong hands. My wife suggested we keep one and figure out how to properly destroy the others. Our kids are full grown, so I don't have this to worry about.

I've always have been against assault weapons and so has my wife. My wife is suggesting we keep one, but I don't think this is appropriate. Any suggestions on how to dispose of these rifles and the ammo? My uncle's collection probably has 6-8 thousand rounds of ammo for both the AR15 and the WASR. Should I try to pressure the police department to do this or find another avenue?

We have literally just got started a few days ago, so don't make too many inferences based on the posts that you see there - it's too small of a sample at the moment.

But also, I don't have a different kind of liberals for you. Gun politics on the left are what they are. I'd very much like to change it, of course, and I actually think that prepping might be a pathway there for many. But at the same time, to talk about all these other things, we have to meet people where they are on guns; and for many, that is the kind of thinking that involves stuff like "no-one should be able to own military assault rifles like AR".

Think about this way. Someone who thinks like that is unlikely to seek out places like LGC, where people who otherwise hold similar political beliefs to them (and whom they would actually be likely to listen to, unlike NRA and other right-wing propaganda) are able to politely explain to them why it doesn't make sense. Prepping is another matter - while it's also seen as somewhat "nutty" by some on the left, it doesn't have nearly as much of a stigma. So it's a context where the pro-gun and anti-gun crowd can intermingle - but also, by its very nature, it's the one where guns do come up often, and where it's hard to dispute their utility - even people who shy away from notions of armed self-defense or hunting for sport, still accept subsistence hunting. And so, there will be discussions about guns, and diffusion of ideas.

In fact, this same thread is a good example of that. Note how the attitude of the original poster changed over the course of it - it started with "how do I get rid of these?", and now we're talking about what they are, what can they do, whether it's a good idea to keep some or all of them etc.

That's how you win people over - one heart at a time.

I hope one heart at a time bit works out. :|

What I saw in the thread was a guy vacillating on his position so he would not offend any of the other posters. That would be typical and therein lies the problem. :problem:

The only positive I saw was someone trying to stave off a political discussion. :|

How about a look at what it is and not what it isn't. :hmmm:

I am on it also. I try to post when I can. I hope more people join.

These should help you start.

Socialist Rifle Association (Digital but working on getting IRl chapters started shortly)
John Brown Gun Club (Partner organization Redneck Revolt might be a perfect leftist org to target with a "lefitst prepper agit prop" [say that ten times fast!])
