What do you think, folks - want to try for a QSO night?
I've got 100W worth of 40 meter goodness ready to go!

Re: LGC hams - QSO Night?
2I'm up for it. Any night is OK, although weekends are less hectic.
Maybe, if there are enough hams on here, we can get our own closed invite-only room? I'm reluctant to advertise my call sign on an open forum, but no problem if it's elitist

Re: LGC hams - QSO Night?
3We shouldn't have to announce calls. The BITX QRP folks have a Sunday night sched - we figure anyone silly enough to mix in CQ BITX with their usual CQ QRP calls deserves what they get.

4I've signed up for an amateur cram and test in a few weeks. I took the online test from hamstudy.org and passed without studying.
Anything I should know or do ahead of time?

5Just bring the FCC fee and ID, pencils are usually provided.drachek wrote:I've signed up for an amateur cram and test in a few weeks. I took the online test from hamstudy.org and passed without studying.

Study for the General exam too, many times they will let you take the General or Extra exam right after you finish with the Technician exam. Saves having to come back again later when you feel the need to upgrade. This will get you on the HF bands.

6I've ordered the relevant manuals.HuckleberryFun wrote:

How much should I fret over this? I have heard the basic license test is pretty easy. How big of a step up is the General exam?
Re: LGC hams - QSO Night?
7It's harder, but not orders of magnitude harder. The Extra exam is though: more theory.drachek wrote:I've ordered the relevant manuals.HuckleberryFun wrote:

9Currently only on 20 and 17M. Hoping to get a dipole up by spring, and then could try 40 and 80M.
Cheers!

10Look into the ZeroFive 40 meter vertical. I have one in my small backyard with 100 buried radials. Works great.JaxTeller wrote:Currently only on 20 and 17M. Hoping to get a dipole up by spring, and then could try 40 and 80M.

With an auto tuner it gets out well on 80 too.

11I might be up for it too. Only have a 20m vertical right now, but shouldn't be too tough to get a 40m dipole or inverted v into the air.
