Most likely, yeah - a.k.a. 7.92x57.

*Could* also be 7.92x33 but that's less likely.

It's loaded ammo, I assume? My Russian isn't the best.

It's loaded ammo. And I don't have any 7x57 rifles. It's loaded and there are 10 boxes of it. It must be 8mm Mauser. That's the only thing I would have got or been given on purpose.

I have no recollection where I got it.

That is Yugoslav 196 gr. FMJ BT 8mm Mauser made in 1954. 15 rounds/box on stripper clips. Good stuff. I have 300 rounds of it stored away.

7x57 is a different round than 7.92x57 (8mm Mauser), just FWIW.

I thought Quiz had a K98. That's the ticket. Also it is brass cased/Berdan primed.

I have to shoot the k98 still. The Turk has seen the range many times.

You all are right about what it is and how nice it is. Here's some other Yugo:

I think I have a box or two in the closet.

Need to label the damn box.

Since I haven't shot it, the ammo that came with it got put up, but unlabeled. It took you guys telling me what it was to put 2 and 2 together and get 7.

More coffee. Or beer, or something.

My Czech and Yugo Mausers shoot that stuff with no problem. My Turk is a different story; a light strike failed to fire and the case separated from the bullet when I ejected the round. I haven't slugged the barrel but I'll wager dollars to donuts that it was meant for the 147g projectiles.
