4Might I inquire about the suppressor you have ordered/bought and why you choose that one?

Re: Buying an NFA Item
5Nice. I'm waiting for my second NFA item now (sbr & sbs), though I had to do mine on a trust (Houston!).

6If you don't mind me asking, why did you go the trust route? I live in Texas as well so just curious.Dropbear wrote:Nice. I'm waiting for my second NFA item now (sbr & sbs), though I had to do mine on a trust (Houston!).

7Harris County LEOs have a no sign-off policy on all NFA applications. Probably the same in Austin, I imagine, though I've heard it's possible to get sight-off in Round Rock.Catalyst wrote:If you don't mind me asking, why did you go the trust route? Re: Buying an NFA Item
9You can also add officers to the trust so multiple people can use the suppressor alone on the range.
At least, I believe that's how it works...

Re: Buying an NFA Item
10You can indeed have multiple trustees. The item can be possessed and used by any of them. Also makes it easier to will your stuff to family when you go.
I'd still prefer to have my name on the tax stamp and not my trust. It just feels like a scam, even if legit.

11I've got a trust as well. I'm waiting on stamps for a suppressor and sbr, going on month 6 now.. maybe I'll get them before Christmas.

13Well, that's supposedly been in the works for a few years now, hasn't it?beaurrr wrote:The CLEO sign-off is going away, just not yet. NFATCA explains.
Incidentally, here's another take on how to buy a suppressor, how to set up an NFA trust, and how to buy a suppressor via a trust.
Question: is it possible to buy a suppressor (or other NFA item) as an individual, then subsequently set up an NFA trust, and then transfer ownership of the item from yourself to the trust? And if so, how much of a bureaucratic pain in the ass is it?

17If I ahve everything else in order, the Olsen Training Group Durable Trust should be up and buying neato toys by December.
I will document the process of getting an NFA trust set up. Due to the 'citizenship' requirements and not being sure if my wife will take on American citizenship, a trust makes a lot of sense. You see, resident aliens can NOT own or possess NFA goodies. One more way they tried to get Luciano...

Re: Buying an NFA Item
18Good move to put your name in the trust; in this way you needn't drag a copy of the trust around with the copy of the Form 4.
FWIW; word is, current wait times are by about 7 months > 50% have their stamps, and 8 months about 90% have theirs.
A good site to pass the time is NFA Tracker. You can add to the database and th-uffer with other-th.

Re: Buying an NFA Item
19Getting my trust was easy - there is a lawyer in town that does nothing but NFA trusts! Half hour interview to elicit the necessary info and $300 later you have a solid trust. I know a lot of folks who did their own, though I have no regrets paying a specialist to do mine. It's temping to have a smartarse name like 'In Glock We Trust' or 'Zombie Defence League Trust', but I don't want to test the BATFE's sense of humour. Mine is my three initial (XYZ Trust) also required less engraved real estate on my krink receiver.

Re: Buying an NFA Item
20You could save the engraved real estate and still call it "WTF" or "OMFG" trust.
I'm still waiting to see if anybody has an answer for whether an individually owned item can be transferred to a trust later.
There are so many tax stamps issued in this county that the Sheriff's office has a regular CLEO sign-off time every Wednesday morning, when Commander Willie B. looks everything over before signing, just to be sure you got the paperwork right. Everybody in that office is the absolute best.

Re: Buying an NFA Item
21Sorry, yes you can transfer from your trust to a Corp or individual or the other way around, but you have to submit another Form 4 and another $200 and wait for the approval, now about 7 to 8 months.

Re: Buying an NFA Item
22So I guess an NFA trust is the only way to go, then, unless you can get a city police chief to sign off on the form.DoctorB wrote:Pierce and King counties won't sign anything.

Not sure yet exactly how soon, though.Euromutt wrote:So I guess an NFA trust is the only way to go, then, unless you can get a city police chief to sign off on the form.DoctorB wrote:Pierce and King counties won't sign anything.
