I just traded my 10/22 Ruger, which I didn't shoot much at all any more, for most of a Husqvarna 1887 revolver. There was some other "consideration" involved, but both parties are happy. I now own two Husqvarnas - the other one is my lawn tractor.
Thing is - it is a 7.5mm Swedish calibre, also known as 7.5mm Swiss, and there is no modern source of ammo. I have a box of 25 original cartridges with it, but I am not going to shoot them.
I hear that 38 S&W Long can be shot, if low-powered (the 7.5 x 22 was a BP round until they stopped in '68 or so), and wondered if anyone had first-hand experience. There are videos of people shooting it, wad-cutters mainly coz low-powered, but I really, REALLY don't want to screw up the gun.
Yes, answer is "don't even try." But still ...
Re: 7.5 x 22mm Swedish/Swiss
2If they fit (S&W nominal is a hair fatter) the wadcutter should be fine. The Swedish version uses a larger diameter bullet, but the hollow base should expand enough. Nominally, the smith case is longer, but I expect the chamber area meant for the bullet gives the length necessary for the longer case. I wouldn’t use ammo other than hollow base wadcutter without doing a chamber cast. The smith rim is smaller, but probably not enough to give trouble.
Re: 7.5 x 22mm Swedish/Swiss
3Thanks! I probably will never try it, but I might see if I can "borrow" a couple of rounds from somewhere - just so I can say I've shot it.

4Reed's Ammo sometimes has these:
http://shop.reedsammo.com/75-Swiss-Revolver_c317.htm
It's a small operation. If they are out of stock, sometimes an e-mail and a few weeks of waiting will result in them doing a small production run. They aren't cheap, but the ammo that I have bought from them is very high quality.

Yup - that's the beast.
Although Adams' version is priced well over what mine cost (may be in better shape, too )

9I wonder how the mechanism differ? Am I correct in that this variant is pre-gas seal?SailDesign wrote:sikacz wrote:That's a Swedish version of the Nagant.

10As far as I can tell, Yes. It was the '95 model that achieved that.sikacz wrote:I wonder how the mechanism differ? Am I correct in that this variant is pre-gas seal?SailDesign wrote:sikacz wrote:That's a Swedish version of the Nagant.

11This place makes the 7.5mm Swiss/Swede by special order. I'd avoid the S&W route.

13Ordered a box last night - had email this morning confirming they are keeping to original black powder pressure specs, so should be no danger to the cylinder.joemac wrote:Reed's Ammo sometimes has these:

Re: 7.5 x 22mm Swedish/Swiss
14Yes, indeed. I honestly think Reed’s started out reloading for himself, family, and friends and then eventually expanded into a full time commercial custom ammo operation.shinzen wrote:Good excuse for a reloading starter kit.
