terminology-misfire vs hangfire?

today i was in wally world and accidentally helped a 1st time shooter select target ammo for her brand new ruger LCP in 380. she's never shot a gun before, but says she's getting training. the saleswoman described what she called a "misfire" she'd had, in which the hammer dropped, no bang, she counted to some number and the round went off. i've always thought this was called a hangfire. was i wrong? is a hangfire a special case of misfire? something completely different?
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

I had this discussion with Ted Bonnet (1993 IPSC Standard World Champion) and he defined misfire is what happens when the primer is hit but the round doesn't go off and he listed the possible reasons as: light strikes, hard primer, no primer in the pit, contaminated primer, high primer, no chemical in the primer, crushed primers and reversed primer.
