Really lucky find at a gun show

#1 Post by JoelB » Sat May 19, 2018 2:28 pm

I found this Marlin Deluxe Model 97 .22 made in 1906 yesterday. What is most surprising is that the bore is as nice as the outside.

It's beautiful. Is it rude to ask how much?

If anything I should be embarrassed. It was marked $850 and I had the nerve to talk him into $825.

That's a good price for a pre-39a in that condition. Great find.

I've collected high grade.22s for 60 years and the deluxe 97s have always been my favorites. Stevens Lady models are the only ones that come close to them.

Very nice, should be fun to shoot. Been thinking about a .22 lever gun.

The weather finally is nice, so I went ot back and shot it at my 33 yard target.

Image

The first 2 shots just above the 8 were with the peep sight. The next 2 widely spaced below Birrchwood Casey were with the open sight. I moved the slide 1 notch down and shot the 3 that are almost touching. That's as good as I can do at age 77, so I quit.
