Swedish Mauser FM 23-36 trial match rifle

1
A few months back, I glommed this at an auction. I had never seen a Swedish Mauser like this and thought I thought it might be some kind of sporter job, but found that it is actually a fairly rare FM 23-36 Swedish trial match rifle.

"Crown Jewels"--The Mauser in Sweden", the handbook on Swedish Mausers, had some information on it, as did the Dutchman's House of Karlina website.

free? i think not.
these are my actual milsurps, with prices (mostly 15 or 20 yrs ago) in the order i got them.
garand $700
krag $700
m1917 $350
trapdoor $600
probably paid too much for the krag.
but it's easier after the first one, and i can stop anytime. really.
i see m1As going $1400 and up. no. too rich for me.
see? you CAN stop anytime. :yahoo:

poor lonesome m1917 was sitting in a corner at the gun and antique shop, neglected. it spoke to me, said "nobody loves me". i replied "come home with me, little rifle". and so it did. pretty steep considering mosins and vz24s were $100 in those days.
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

Naw, if I bought yours I’d have to change out the barrel and the trigger group. Then the bolt, charging lever and springs, receiver pins, bolt buffer, and stock. Then I would lose sleep until I swapped out the receiver. Then I would put all of the leftover parts back together and lather, rinse, and repeat.

How do think I got to this point??

Cool! Lot of similarities to my M28-76. It seems both the Swedes and Finns had similar target rifles designs during the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s too. Nice find. Looking forward to your range report!
As old as it is, is the ammo available or reload?

Thanks, guys.

I've got a 28/76 and it does bear a resemblance.

Ammo is not a problem--uses 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser ammo. The receiver is dated 1935, several years later than the Gustaf-made M96's and 96/38's.

Receiver is also missing the thumb cut for stripper clip charging of the magazine, it is theoretically a bit stronger than the M96 action.

I’m the guy who has nearly $5 k in 10/22s! I’m fighting off a CZ rifle jones right now.
Just buy, you’ll feel better and it’s part of the cure! It really is. Once you run out of funds, you’ll be temporarily cured.
