FightLight SCR Questions

I recently saw a FightLite (formerly Ares) SCR with wood furniture. That interested me.
This isn't a near-term purchase, for a number of reasons, some obvious. But I am interested in figuring out how I'd be able to build one.

Here's what I'd want and why:
20" medium-weight barrel. I don't envision close-quarters urban fighting, so velocity is more important to me than maneuverability. I don't need a bull barrel, but I've got a Mini-14, so my whippy-barrel needs are met.
1:8 Twist. I understand this is a good compromise between 1:7 and 1:9 that shoots both heavy and light bullets well. I don't target shoot, but I like to ring gongs out at 200 yards occasionally, and I buy ammo based on price, not specs, a forgiving twist is important
Iron Sights. Just not an optics guy. I'll want a rear aperture, because my reading vision has deteriorated, and I can see with those better than a notch. Actually, quite well, without having to qualify the statement.
Wood forend. I don't like rails, accessory stuff and other stuff. Wood, please.
The obvious answer would be a barreled upper. Complete, and requires me to learn the least about how this stuff comes together. Typically has a front sight. However, these come with A1/A2 furniture, and a high-mount front sight. Also barreled uppers typically have a BCG, which I wouldn't need. Or, they have two issues: front sight height and stuff I don't need. I could get an upper with a front sight, but those appear to need a tall rear sight, like on the carry handle. I don't think that looks right with the wood furniture (but might be cool in it's own non-sequitur way). So, to address the issues:
1. Front sight. My understanding of the front sight on M16-style rifles is that it's high, and the rear sight is high up in the carry handle because of the straight stock required by the buffer tube. The SCR doesn't have that, instead having a more standard Monte Carlo-like drop. Without a rail, what's a good way to address this? I"m figuring there's going to be a Picatinny section on the receiver where I can mount a rear sight. How do I figure out what height I need to try to match with availability?
2. Stuff I don't need. What parts do I need to make a complete upper? I wouldnt need a BCG, but everything else. Walk me through this.
3. Or, just convince me that I should get a PSA upper and replace the handguard.
