From the “Tell us what you really think “ Dept. And “Foot in Mouth up to hip” Dept
President Donald Trump’s pick for Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, prevailed in Tuesday’s primary, defeating a more moderate opponent.

The newly anointed GOP candidate, currently U.S. Representative for Florida’s 6th congressional district, went on Fox News on Wednesday to criticize his opponent, Democrat Andrew Gillum, mayor of the state’s capital city, Tallahassee. Gillum would be the state’s first black governor.

During a rant about his opponent, DeSantis called him “articulate” but told voters that his black opponent would “monkey up” the state.

“Florida elections are always competitive, and this is a guy who, although he is much too liberal for Florida, he has huge problems with how he’s governed Tallahassee, he is an articulate spokesman for those far left views,” DeSantis said. “The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda.”

DeSantis will probably step on his pecker again during the election. Question for the Democrats is did they pick the strongest candidate, Gillum has baggage as Tallahassee mayor. Did Soros and Steyer back the right candidate?

Well here is the Reptillan’s Canidate step back.
Florida Republican Ron DeSantis, who won his party’s nomination for governor Tuesday night, has issued a statement to Fox News hours after referring to his black opponent Andrew Gillum as “articulate” and warning that he would “monkey up” the state.

“Florida elections are always competitive, and this is a guy who, although he is much too liberal for Florida, he has huge problems with how he’s governed Tallahassee, he is an articulate spokesman for those far left views,” DeSantis said Wednesday morning. “The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda.”

DeSantis has now “clarified” his comment to Fox News by saying that he is not racist.

“Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses. To characterize it as anything else is absurd,” the statement read.

“We do not condone this language,” Fox News host Sandra Smith said.

My dad always told me to “engage brain before putting mouth in gear.” I realize that iOS hard to do with the Trumpnista since brains are in a short supply amoung them.

I was absolutely thrilled to see Gillum win that Florida primary! Progressive, HBCU grad gets to take on the Faux News candidate. Gillum was the only non-millionaire/billionaire in the race.

Reps are going to throw a lot of dirt at Gillum, but never discount the local hatred of DeSantis. No candidate is perfect, but we know where they both stand.

The GOP is already accusing Dems of being racist for calling DeSantis out over monkey comment.
Republican commentator Allie Stuckey lashed out a Democratic strategist on Wednesday after he suggested it was racist for Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis (R) to suggest his black opponents would “monkey” up progress in the state.

After DeSantis made the remarks about Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum on Fox News, HLN’s Carol Costello asked Stuckey and Democratic strategist Michael Star Hopkins to respond.

Stuckey argued that her opponent was “racist” for disagreeing with the use of the term “monkey” in political discourse.

“I think it’s racist to call him out for that,” Stuckey said. “I think it’s kind of a ridiculous accusation to point that out as bigoted or as pointed towards his opponent. He has just finished saying that this is a worthy opponent that we’re going to work hard to beat. I highly doubt that he intentionally meant to be demeaning by saying that. And I think it’s way overblown to react in a negative way.”

“As an African-American man who’s had racial terms used against him,” Hopkins replied, “I’m sure you’re a nice person, but I don’t really care whether you think it was racist. It was a racist term that was used. It’s offensive. There’s millions of African-American who have had to deal with this.”

“You honestly think that he intended it that way?” Stuckey interrupted.

“How else to you intend, ‘Let’s monkey around,’ when the first African-American nominee for governor, when you’re addressing that?” Hopkins asked.

Stuckey laughed in response: “He’s saying we shouldn’t monkey this up, we shouldn’t mess this up.”

“Why didn’t he say ‘mess this up’?” Hopkins wondered.

“I don’t have the same perspective as you do and I will own that,” Stuckey opined. “And I believe that you are genuine in your feelings on this. I think that you are a very honest and good person. However, I just don’t think that DeSantis is that dumb, that he said a blatant racist term that he knew would get backlash. He’s not an idiot.”

Hopkins compared Stuckey’s remarks to President Donald Trump’s assertion that there were “good people on both sides” in the clash between neo-Nazis and anti-fascists in Charlottesville.

“Come on,” Hopkins pleaded with Stuckey. “He could have said it a million ways but to use the term ‘monkey’ with an African-American nominee.”

“No!” Stuckey exclaimed. “Because he’s a socialist. He was saying this is a far-left socialist candidate. Florida doesn’t want someone with these kind of extreme progressive values and so we don’t want to monkey this up, we don’t want to mess this up.”

“It’s this kind of accusation of racism against something that is clearly not intended to be racist that actually undermines actual instances of racism,” the conservative pundit added. “And this is another example of why Trump won. Because people are so tired of these generalizations — everyone on the right being racist when they’re clearly not.”

“I didn’t say everybody was racist,” Hopkins noted. “This race is going to get racial. That’s Donald Trump’s kind of playbook. That’s his agenda. And he says he’s going to come down to Florida. And what happens? Less than 12 hours after the race is called, you have DeSantis throwing around the word ‘monkey.'”

“It’s going to get racial on the left,” Stuckey erupted without letting Hopkins finish. “I guarantee you no conservative is going to deliberately make this about race.”

“I’ll take that bet,” Hopkins quipped.

I swear Republicans sound like pre-teens: "I'm rubber, you're glue..." etc.
"No, we're not racist! You're racist for calling us racist!"

And only their fellow racists believe that.

In the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy, Andrew led the charge for more common sense gun safety policies including a ban on assault weapons, large capacity magazines, and bump stocks; strengthening and requiring universal background checks for all gun sales; closing private sale loopholes; restricting gun access for the mentally ill and known foreign and domestic terrorists; closing the “Boyfriend Loophole” and prohibiting gun possession for those with felony and misdemeanor domestic violence and stalking convictions; and banning the purchase and possession of armor piercing bullets.

He led marches on Florida’s state capital arm-in-arm with college and high school students to demand real action on this national gun violence epidemic. He helped register high school students to vote in Broward County — only miles away from Parkland — to ensure those students have their voices heard this year. He has met with students, families, and community members affected by daily incidents of gun violence across the state, including in Tallahassee.
As Governor, Andrew will never back down from common sense solutions to keep our streets, parks, and schools safe from gun violence.

It's Florida. He isn't going to pass anti-gun legislation like that.

Compared to the alternative, it isn't worth withholding a vote for the Dem IMHO.
