Bannon reported to sing to Mueller

Is Bannon going to be the next John Dean?
Former White House adviser Steve Bannon is willing to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into whether President Donald Trump’s campaign coordinated with Russia to influence the 2016 election, according to multiple media reports late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

“Mueller will hear everything Bannon has to say,” a source told The Daily Beast, which first reported the news on Tuesday night.

Axios confirmed on Wednesday that Bannon ― who reportedly received a subpoena last week to testify in the special counsel’s investigation ― “intends to fully cooperate with Mueller.” Though the subpoena asks Bannon to appear before a grand jury, Bannon struck a deal to be interviewed directly by prosecutors instead, CNN’s David Wright said.

A source familiar with the investigation told NBC the interview could be scheduled as early as this month.

The reports show a shift from Bannon’s handling of a congressional investigation into the possible collusion. Appearing before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, Bannon was said to have repeatedly avoided answering questions about his time in the White House or on the Trump transition team by invoking executive privilege.

Axios said executive privilege probably wouldn’t apply to the Mueller interview, because Mueller himself is working for the executive branch.

Bannon “can say whatever the hell he wants to say to [Mueller] about whatever topic that he wants,” a source familiar with Bannon’s thinking told Axios.

A source close to Bannon told NBC that Bannon would “answer any questions” Mueller asks.

Interesting that he didn't want to give a voluntary interview like many in the WH. A grand jury subpoena means he's compelled to answer questions without a lawyer present. Bannon is an old gossip, Mueller may be hoping that Bannon just starts blabbing away. We know not everything he says is true, but it gives Mueller's prosecutors some bits of information to pursue with their FBI investigators.

If this were a Grisham novel we're about to find our character dead in a hotel room due to a mysterious heart attack. It will happen day's before being deposed by the special counsel.

istorian Allan Lichtman is known for making accurate predictions — and he’s more certain than ever that President Donald Trump will be impeached this spring.

The American University history professor has correctly predicted the winner of every presidential election since 1984, including Trump, and he has recently updated his book, The Case for Impeachment, that was released in April — before the president fired FBI director James Comey and special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed.

“There’s as strong a case of obstruction of justice as there was against Bill Clinton on a vastly more important matter than a blue dress,” Lichtman told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Remember, virtually every Republican voted for an obstruction article against Bill Clinton.”

Even if Democrats capture the House of Representatives in 2018 and pass Articles of Impeachment it is still up to the senate to act as jury.

Republicans know how to play the managed democracy game. They're pros at it. https://press.princeton.edu/titles/11159.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverted_totalitarianism
This is how the republicans have been able to have their cake and eat it too. This is how they have been able to push for neo-liberal economic trade policies which hollow out the middle class and cause the breakup of families while pushing a bogus social agenda of "family values" and right wing economic populism while seeming to bad mouth multi-lateral trade agreements which they themselves favor.

The Democratic party is not blameless here. Why was a thoroughly corrupt Donald able to defeat a decent but flawed Hillary? Because 10 million people who voted for Obama in 2012 voted for Donald in 2016. What brought that about? That question is difficult to answer and I don't believe it was all Pootin's fault although its obvious that having Donald as president makes Russia great again.

Bannon refused to talk to the Congressional Committees. He realized the committees are GOP controlled and are really not interested in doing anything against Trump. Bannon is looking to really put the screws to Trump. He found out that he couldn't get what he wanted to do in the Administration and was first pushed aside and later fired by Kelly. So Bannon goes back to Breibart but quickly finds out the main backer Mercer is a Trump person and so Bannon is fired from there, leaving him without a soapbox. Bannon is following the old saying, "Don't get mad, Get even". He has made a deal with Mueller. He gets a subpoena, but cuts a deal he won't testify before the grand jury but only before the prosecutors. He can spill his guts and give all the info to help the investigators. The WH can't do a thing about it where as the congressional investigations can be screw by the WH claiming Executive privilege.. Thus Bannon is telling Trump and the WH screwed with me and now see what happens.

CNN is reporting today that Bannon has struck a deal with Mueller to be interviewed by prosecutors. Looks like the grand jury subpoena worked.
Steve Bannon has struck a deal with special counsel Robert Mueller's team and will be interviewed by prosecutors instead of testifying before the grand jury, two people familiar with the process told CNN. He is expected to cooperate with the special counsel, the sources said.

The sources did not say when the interview will take place or if the subpoena would be withdrawn.
Bannon, the former White House chief strategist for President Donald Trump, is expected to talk openly to Mueller's team. Bannon's attorney told the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday that Bannon would answer questions when he goes to the special counsel because executive privilege would not apply, according to one of the sources. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.

Last week, the FBI attempted to serve Bannon with a subpoena to appear before the grand jury in the Russia probe. He referred agents to his attorney, multiple sources said. Bannon's deal with the special counsel follows the publishing of Michael Wolff's book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," which claimed Bannon called the June 2016 meeting between senior Trump presidential campaign staff and a Russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton "treasonous." In testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, Bannon downplayed the comments published in Wolff's book, saying it was "hyperbole" that he described the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and members of the Trump campaign with Russians as treasonous and unpatriotic, two sources said. Bannon, who joined the campaign after the June 2016 meeting, and shed little light on the meeting with Russians, the sources said.

One reason Mueller may have issued a subpoena is that Bannon publicly changed his story when he issued a statement on the book's contents, walking back some of what was reported, a source told CNN. The source familiar with the process with Bannon said Mueller's team may have been seeking to send a message that he needs to be truthful about what happened. California Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN that the White House instructed Bannon not to answer questions regarding the presidential transition and his time in the White House. Schiff said a White House attorney other than White House counsel Don McGahn reconfirmed this should continue after the committee served Bannon with a subpoena during the interview yesterday. Two sources tell CNN the White House attorney was Uttam Dhillon. McGahn and Bannon share the same attorney, William Burck. The House Intelligence Committee is not done questioning Bannon, as the panel will require him to answer their questions and their own subpoena of him stands, Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, said after Tuesday's hearing.
