Scott Walker and WI GOP - Why have Elections?

Scott Walker and the WI GOP are the tip of the spear when it comes to Republican authoritarianism

By Republican reasoning, a vacated legislative seat could be kept vacant until the next general election if the legislator left/died in the first month of their term. They could appeal the decision to the State Supreme Court that has been bought and paid for by Republican Special Interests, but my guess is that they don't want to have them make any decision until after the April election where a state Supreme Court seat is in play (WI has state Supreme Court elections in April)

But can't Scott Walker just appoint military district leaders to govern those regions until this blue wave subsides? :sarcasm:

He gave up after three Judges said no you can’t do that.
Wisconsin Republicans have ended their legal fight to wait until November to conduct elections for two vacant legislative seats.

The seats ― one in the state Assembly, the other in the state Senate ― have been vacant since December when the Republicans holding them resigned to take jobs in the administration of Gov. Scott Walker (R). Walker said he wouldn’t call special elections, and instead allow the seats to be filled in the regularly scheduled votes in November to save the state money.

Democrats sued Walker over that refusal, saying he was violating a state law requiring that special elections be called as promptly as possible for vacancies. A state circuit court judge sided with them on March 22, giving the governor until noon Thursday to schedule the special elections.

Walker twice appealed that decision and asked for more time, as Republican legislative leaders called lawmakers back for a special session to try to change the state law. A judge denied Walker’s request, and the governor decided Wednesday not to appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court.

The judge ruled that “representative government and the election of our representatives are never ‘unnecessary,’ never a ‘waste of taxpayer resources.’”

On Thursday, Walker issued an executive order scheduling the special elections. The primaries will be on May 15 and the general election on June 12. The seats will again be on the ballot in November. Wisconsin Republicans, meanwhile, announced they would drop their attempt to change the state law on special elections.

If elections are an unnecessary expense and constituents don't always need representation (as his argument goes), doesn't that seem un-American? Are his supporters so daft that they don't realize it could work both ways (a Democrat or whatever could use that same precedent to stifle representation)?

Still hoping for a blue wave in every state.

Democrats in WI made a lot of mistakes when fighting Walker including the recall attempt. That just emboldened Walker and Republicans and aided by Koch brothers money they've charged ahead doing what they like. In this case I'm confident Walker was never going to win in state or federal court, he chose the wrong issue to fight.

Holy crap! He really is throwing a tantrum! My favorite tweet is below:
Tonight’s results show we are at risk of a #BlueWave in WI. The Far Left is driven by anger & hatred -- we must counter it with optimism & organization. Let’s share our positive story with voters & win in November.
Sucks for him!

Yes, a liberal female judge (seats are technically non-partisan) won a seat on the WI Supremes thanks to help from Joe Biden and Eric Holter. Conservatives still have a 4-3 majority on that court which is mostly female.

I'm sure there a Conservative Reptilians that wonder why we should even allow women to serve on any court as a judge. Heck, there are some of them that don't think women should be allowed to vote.
