Yet another Reptilian bites the dust and quits.

Friday afternoon five-term Republican U.S. Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama announced she will retire at the end of her term and not seek re-election next year. She’s the third in the past three days to make that announcement.

Keep it up and there won’t be a Reptilian left in the house except for Rep.Louie Gohmert Jr. and he is to dumb to quit.

She won handily in her last reelection. However, she isn't a diehard Trumper, so she probably won't get past a primary this year.

Only the hardest core Republicans are staying in office, it seems. Bipartisanship will be dead for a while longer.

In The US House another Texas Reptilian calls it quits.
An eight-term U.S. Congressman from Texas is the latest casualty of the Trump era. Republican Rep. Mike Conaway will not seek re-election next year, and will retire at the end of his term. Politico’s Jake Sherman first reported the news.

Rep. Conaway took over the House Intelligence Committee’s Russia investigation after Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) said he would step aside.

Conaway in 2017, two years after the Supreme Court found same-sex couple have a constitutional right to marry, denounced the marriages of those couples.

“I’m not opposed to civil unions,” he told a constituent at a town hall, after being pressed and insisting he is not anti-gay.

“Just don’t call it marriage,” he demanded.

Conaway is the fifth House Republican to call it quits in the past week, and the tenth Republican to not seek re-election in this Congress.

House Republicans have told reporters off the record they don’t believe they can re-take the House.

I don't know if that is a positive sign. I think it might be the opposite. It means more moderate republicans are quitting because the Republican party has been taken over by the nationalist movement. Who do you think is going to take their place? More Trump loyalists.

Yet another Texas Republican Rep calls it quits.
On Thursday, Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) announced he will not seek re-election in 2020, in a devastating blow to Republicans’ chances of reclaiming the House majority.

“I have made the decision to not seek reelection for the 23rd Congressional District of Texas in order to pursue opportunities outside the halls of Congress to solve problems at the nexus between technology and national security,” wrote Hurd in his announcement.

Beat me to it. Adding some details....

Texas Rep. Hurd, lone black Republican in House, won’t seek reelection

https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpos ... story.html

In an interview with The Post, the Texas Republican, 41, said he plans to run again for elected office, though he didn’t specify which one.

Hurd’s retirement is the third by a Texas Republican in the past week and the ninth by a party incumbent, dealing a blow to GOP efforts to regain control of the House in next year’s election.

Hurd criticized President Trump's recent racist tweets about four minority congresswomen, saying, “When you imply that because someone doesn’t look like you, in telling them to go back to Africa or wherever, you’re implying that they’re not an American and you’re implying that they have less worth than you.”

Another - not Trump enough and not the right color for Trump Republicans.
Yet Hurd still supports the orange puke - go figure. Was sad that he didn't lose in 2016 - Jones came close and planned to run again against Hurd in 2020 - she lost by just over 700 volts. However, with Cruz having a good competition (Beto) and Turnip so unpopular turnout was high for Jones. Plus we can no longer single ticket vote, which will cause long lines at the polls and probably discourage some.

This makes number four.
U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant will not seek reelection in 2020, two sources confirmed to The Texas Tribune late Sunday.

He is the fourth member of the Texas delegation to announce his retirement in recent days. Marchant’s decision was first reported by The New York Times.

Marchant, who was elected to Congress in 2004, is a founding member of the House Tea Party Caucus. He represents Texas’ 24th Congressional District, which spans the northern suburbs of Fort Worth and Dallas. The district has historically been reliably red, but Marchant’s margins of victory have grown thinner in recent elections. In 2016, he won by a comfortable two-digit margin. Last year, Marchant squeaked by with a 3 point win over Democrat Jan McDowell.

Before entering national office in 2005, Marchant led a successful small business and homebuilding career. He launched a career in local politics in 1980, serving as a Carrollton City Council member and Carrollton mayor before going on to 18 years in the Texas House.

In Washington, Marchant is known for quiet work. In his decade and a half on Capitol Hill, Marchant has climbed the ladder of influence on the Ways and Means Committee, where he was nearing subcommittee chairmanship, in addition to serving on the Ethics Committee.

The senior representative joins an exodus of Texas Republicans, including U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway, and U.S. Rep. Will Hurd. In several cases, members have stepped down ahead of facing toss-up races for seats they could once hold without much effort.
https://www.rawstory.com/2019/08/us-rep ... -in-texas/

With all these Reptilians running for cover under their rocks it is going to put a strain on the Reptilian Party to come up with viable candidates and funding for the races. This will hurt the other ones trying to get elected or running against Dems holding office. If Texas doesn't turn blue it will become TCU Purple.

2018 election was a one off due to Beto running against Cruz, which brought out many voters and the swarthy scumbag eked it out. I don't expect the same will happen in 2020 as the Trumpites will be out in yuge numbers to reelect the orange trash. I'm hopeful these seats can be flipped, but the only one I have confidence in would be Hurds replacement.

Yes, we should be seeing some very oddly drawn congressional and legislative districts from both parties. State courts might be the only recourse as happened in PA.

Most of the red states were gerrymandered after 2010. We have unfair representation in several states. Even with majority Dem votes, Dems cannot take over state legislatures and the courts are already tilted rightward. It will take a blue tsunami and pressure from the Feds (withhold highway and other funds?) to get rid of some gerrymandering.

Re: Yet another Reptilian bites the dust and quits.

Well the Reptilians have a replacement for Rep. Kenny Marchant and she is a real wack job.
On Monday, Texas Republicans got a familiar recruit for the now-open 24th Congressional District — Beth Van Duyne.

Van Duyne, a conservative firebrand, previously served as the mayor of Irving, a city in the northern portion of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. She grabbed national attention in 2015 by defending her police department’s decision to arrest a teenage Muslim boy for demonstrating a homemade clock at a school science fair, saying, “To the best of my knowledge, they followed protocol for investigating whether this was an attempt to bring a Hoax Bomb to a school campus.”

She also spent her tenure as mayor trying to root out Islamic civil dispute tribunals in her city as a plot to impose Sharia law on Texas — and successfully persuaded the city council to pass a non-binding resolution calling on the Texas legislature to ban Muslims from setting up such panels statewide, even though Christian and Jewish groups have operated similar entities for years.

Texas’ 24th District is currently represented by Rep. Kenny Marchant, a Republican who only barely won re-election last year to his suburban North Texas district, despite national Democrats paying little attention to the race. With Democrats amassing a large bench of prospective candidates to take another crack at it, Marchant announced on Monday that he will not seek re-election — the latest in a growing list of GOP Texas congressmen who are retiring next year.

I think it is a mistake to claim that no one was watching TX-24. Even I knew about this district.

I didn't give Marchant's likely Dem challenger a chance until this month because of incumbency. After the El Paso massacre and Marchant's retirement, I think the Dem could win. Especially against a candidate like Van Duyne. That district isn't likely to vote for a whack job this time. These are not normal times.

Republican Rep. Sean P. Duffy to resign next month, citing complications related to his wife's pregnancy

The congressman from Wisconsin said in a statement that he and his wife, Rachel, found out that "our baby, due in late October, will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition."

Duffy, who was elected in 2010, said he will step down on Sept. 23.

https://www.rollcall.com/news/opinion/s ... e-everyone

In an interview on CNN, the Wisconsin Republican applauded the “good things that came from” a white supremacist murdering nine black worshippers at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015.

“Nikki Haley took down the Confederate flag,” he chirped with excitement. “That was great!” Never mind that Duffy has voted to defend the right of ROTCs to fly the battle banner of traitors.

Then, he tried to use a former colleague as a prop so that he could blame liberalism for a shooting rampage in Tucson, Arizona, in early 2011. “Look at Gabby Giffords,” Duffy said. “The Marxist who took her life, a leftist guy, and now you see violence and terror in the streets all across America, burning and beating people with Donald Trump hats.”

Add yet another Reptilian wanting to leave and go back under his rock.
Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas) announced Wednesday that he will not seek reelection in 2020, adding his name to the growing list of Republicans in Congress looking to give up their seats.

“After much prayer over the past few days and following conversations with my wife, Gina, during that time, I have decided that my current term will be my last,” he said in a statement.

Flores, first elected in 2010, is currently serving out his fifth term representing his state’s 17th Congressional District, an area near Austin that includes Waco.

He is one of at least a dozen Republican representatives who have so far announced they will not seek reelection ― and at least the fifth from Texas alone. The retirements present opportunities for Democrats to flip conservative-held seats as they seek maintain their grip on the House in 2020.

Flores said in his statement that he had never intended to serve more than six terms, and wishes to spend more time with his family.

“Even though my current term will be my final in Congress, I will continue working with a sense of urgency and diligence over the next 16 months to continue fulfilling my original campaign promises to the good folks in TX-17 to restore Liberty, Opportunity, and Security for hardworking Texas families who were left behind due to the disastrous policies of the Obama administration,” Flores stated.

He plans to “resume business activities in the private sector,” where he previously worked as an oil industry executive.

Others in the House who will sit out the next election cycle include: Rep. Martha Roby (R-Ala.); Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Ga.); Rep. Susan Brooks (R-Ind.); Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.); Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-Mich.); Rep. Pete Olson (R-Texas); Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah); Rep. Mike Conway (R-Texas); Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas); Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-Texas); and Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.), who is retiring at the end of the month to help care for his child.

Two Democrats, Rep. Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa), are leaving the House.

A handful of Senate members, including Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.), are also not seeking reelection. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) will retire at the end of the year due to his health.

Another day, another retirement for House Republicans.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Rep. Paul Cook R-CA) is heading for the exits and retiring at the end of his term in 2020.

Instead of serving in Congress for another term, Cook will run for a seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, the congressman’s chief of staff tells the Los Angeles Times.

Even though Democrats made major gains in California during the 2018 midterm elections, Cook’s district will be difficult for the party to pick up. Cook last year won reelection with 60 percent of the vote and his opponent wasn’t even a Democrat, but fellow Republican Tim Donnelly.

Still yet another Texas Reptilian leaves the House.
Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) announced on Monday that he will not seek re-election in 2020.

In a statement posted on his website, Thornberry said that “for everything there is a season.”

“[A]nd I believe that the time has come for a change,” he continued. “Therefore, I will not be a candidate for reelection in the 2020 election.”

“With over a year to go, I will continue to represent the people of the 13th District to the best of my ability,” he added. “Our nation faces many difficult challenges, and none of us can relax our efforts to meet and overcome them, whether at home or around the world.”

Thornberry is the sixth Texas Republican to announce retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives ahead of the 2020 elections.
