I know - the title sounds like the description of a pretty disappointing porn flick.
What are my turkey hunting brethren using to slay their birds this year?
I tried a couple 3-1/2" Fed loads with 2 oz. of 6 shot out of my Benelli Nova the other day. The factory full choke gave me a nice pattern at thirty yards but it was pretty hard to hold the barrel down - not to mention the mule kick to my anticipating shoulder. All of that equals shooting high in my book. It would help if i put that mercury deal in my stock, but have not done so yet. I believe that i will shoot 3" instead. I am gettin' freakin' old, apparently. What have you had good luck with?
Re: GOBBLER Loads/Chokes
2I use a turkey choke but truth be told it's not much tighter than a full choke.
I shoot more birds on the run than standing still, so the baseball sized groups at 50 yards are a waste IMO
I like the 3 1/2" winchester supremes 6's but my remington 870 does not like the cycle them - the brass is made a little different. So I often put the Winchester in the barrel followed by two 3" Federal 6's
Either round will kill a bird at 50 yards

Re: GOBBLER Loads/Chokes
3I have yet to find a turkey load I or my shotgun actually like.

Re: GOBBLER Loads/Chokes
4What loads have you tried?
A lot of people are having problems with the 3 1/2" shells because there is too much shot in them. Going down to 3" or 2 3/4" sometimes yields better results.

5Too much shot equals too much powder equals too much recoil equals anticipation/flinching. Not good. I believe i will shoot three inchers this spring.curtism1234 wrote: A lot of people are having problems with the 3 1/2" shells because there is too much shot in them. 6Damn, that reminds me I need to sight my rifle sites in again. I took them off for rabbit season
I always use the low brass field loads to get dialed in before I get out the big guns
