Welcome!

Glock Talk is a horrible forum. I generally stay off the political forums on those sites.

However, a site that's even WORSE than Glock Talk is concealedcarryforum.com. It's loaded with jello junkies, keyboard "warriors" and Sarah Palin worshippers. One guy argued, with a straight face, that he was going to vote McCain/Palin because "Palin has great legs!"

Just a small sample of the submoronic swill that passes for "debate" on that site.

They have good technical advice and product advice. I should stay off the general forum though. Some threads are funny but there are a lot of ones that make me wish these kinds of people would just stop breeding.

I forgot to introduce myself.

I am 22 I live in North West Missouri.
I am a college student studying Computer Science. I have only a few more semesters left!
The only gun I own is a Glock 19 I bought 5 days ago.
Anything else just ask!

Welcome to the forum.......I second the notion that you can learn a bunch of great technical stuff on many forums, but the chat area or discussion on many gun forums tends to be really thoughtless and real reactionary, and honest discussion is impossible since the lead post is some variation of , "Now that Rush Limbaugh is a real American..." or "Global warming and evolution are the communist socialist agenda to corrupt the US if the homosexual agenda doesn't get us first..." it was what brought me to the LGC----and led me to commie pinko ruin

Welcome to the both of yous.

Great deal of info in other forums and you can stay out of the open discussions all you want. But it is like using a Port-O-Potty you can try all you want but sooner or later you are going look down that hole.

Plus some of the thread titles just suck you in.

Hey, fresh meat! Welcome!

Kind of torn, cause there are some thoughtful people on both, even if I do disagree with much of what they say. But they are overwhelmed by childish, brainless bashing of anything not right-wing.
You hit something that has dawned on me in the last few years. I know a bunch of conservative types who talk tough about the usual (immigration, etc) but would give the shirt off their backs to a stranger in need. Also know some uber liberals who really make me think hard about the phrase "A liberal is just a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet."

Welcome again to you guys. I myself have a Glock and an XD among others, btw.

Welcome to the forum all you new guys. I think most of us here have posted on conservative gun forums from time to time. I used to post on the Texas Concealed Handgun forum, but like others here, I just got tired of the right wing narrow views being spewed out by everyone there. I grant that you can pick up some good technical information of guns of all make there, but it's not worth putting up with the other crap to stay there. I was delighted to find this forum. One thing I noticed when I was posting on that conservative forum - while those guys are all right wing conservative and pro USA and all that, they don't seem to have any qualms about owning guns manufactured abroad. Glocks, Sigs, Taurus' and even Makarovs are all very popular.

I don't know who came up with that phrase, but it's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard.

My wife was mugged--assaulted, actually-- when she was in her early 20s. The guy was African American. She had to use her stun gun to get the guy off her. She zapped him, then he did the whole "cockroach on the ground thing", and she escaped.

She was a liberal before the attack. She's still a liberal almost 20 years later.

She didn't say "Gosh, I was mugged by a black guy. Therefore, all black men are like this, therefore David Duke is right!"

The egocentrism behind the phrase "a liberal is a conservative who has been mugged" is mind-boggling. If a person assumes that his or her own negative personal experiences with one or two people is applicable to the ENTIRE WORLD, then that person is a narcissistic asshole.

Welcome to the new guys. Glad to have you aboard. I maintain a profile on some of those sites but rarely go on. I still visit Bersa Talk and the Kel-Tec Owners Group, but only with certain technical questions, never to discuss politics. I keep up with the Cal Guns Foundation site to see what is going on with the 2a in California, and once in a while I go to the Saiga Forums as I own one as well. I used to own a Glock 27, but it felt very small in my hands and at least the one I had, had a problem with jams.

As for Van's statement.....Well said. It is easier to see the world as either or, which is the core of most extreme thought, but I think, more prevalent on the right side of the spectrum. You can have some trust in the decency of people even after negative experiences, but you can also take steps to protect yourself. It is more a common sense thing than any political issue. Being a liberal and a gun owner are not mutually exclusive, though some might believe them to be.

Thank goodness for this site. I'm a new member and sites like Glock Talk and Virginia Gun Owners Forum were just downright scary. You could not read a post or thread without some right wing wacko steering it into a tirade against Obama, global warming, etc. Frankly, after spending a few days (snowed in here in Virginia) I am convinced that many of these right wing wackos can't wait til the end of the world, armageddon, whatever so they can use their arsenals. Also, those "zombie" threads that permeate those boards are ridiculous and its easy to tell what the term "zombie" includes.

Anyhow, I'm a Virginian who loves his Glock, target shooting, hiking, history, and hates the NRA (I've never forgiven those idiots for the "jack booted thugs" reference to our Federal LEAs, who put their lives on the line for us).

Glad I found a home
