For example:
[youtu_be]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN6z8atxgwI[/youtu_be]

Because you're putting the wrong address between the youtu_be
it should be this: http://youtu.be/JN6z8atxgwI
[youtu_be]http://youtu.be/JN6z8atxgwI[/youtu_be]

Just an update now that the site has a security certificate.

Youtube uses an encrypted link by default - https:// vice the old http:// When that happened (and before the the forum went to a secure address), we had to use the full 'youtube' link/address but remove the 's' from the URL. Changing the forum to an https:// address broke the full youtube button, but now the 'short' address works and doesn't require removing the 's' from the URL.

TL;DR The short address and youtu_be tags 'always' works.

Link using [url] tags:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNtBe6zUytI

Embed using [youtu_be] tags:

Embed using [youtube] tags and leaving 's' on video URL (won't embed):
[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNtBe6zUytI[/youtube]

Embed using [youtube] tags and removing 's' from video URL :

(This should embed, but it leaves a blank space when the forum is accessed using https:// address.)

To see the difference, hit the forum from both addresses:

Like this?

great forum
Got it! Thanks!

Edit: Still think a specific button would be much more expedient.
The problem with a specific button is there is no way the software can differentiate between the link and the text you want to hyperlink.

We'll just have to do it the old fashioned way. ;)
I've used plenty of forums where two boxes pop up, the first one you put the link into, and when you click okay a second box pops up that you put the text you want into. This has been available for well over a decade...

I'm generally fine with putting the brackets on, adding an equal sign and doing it manually, but it's kinda silly seeing people say it can't be done. I think this is the only forum I've ever used that doesn't do it, but it's not master level coding to do it yourself. I've never administrated a forum and don't know how to implement it, I just know it's common.

Anyway, it seems like this forum uses an old version of PHPbb, has there been any consideration of upgrading to 7? I don't know how the backend works (they claim its simple, but that's advertising for you) but I know as a regular user it has lots of nice, intuitive features.

And since this is the how to section, can anyone explain how to repost an image that you embedded in another post? Sometimes I want to reuse one, but it seems like a waste of bandwith and storage to upload it again. I always get an error about how the forum can't figure out the dimensions or something when I try to just post the url in an image bracket.
