History in the making as US House passes LGBTQ Equality Act

1
The U.S, House of Representatives Friday afternoon passed the long-awaited Equality Act, 236-173.

The legislation would expand the Civil Rights Act and the Housing Act to include protections for LGBTQ people in essential areas including employment, housing, banking and credit, education, public accommodations, federally-funded programs, and jury service.

After a few short hours of debate, Democrats voted overwhelmingly for the bill.

The legislation now gets sent to the Senate. It is expected Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will never bring it to the floor.

But now Democrats have Republicans on the record for where they stand on equality, and can use that in the 2020 elections to help them keep the House. The Equality Act is extremely popular nationwide.

Well done!
+1. And it's in the can for whenever we get control again to pass it.

We should be doing the same for healthcare, DACA, immigration, education, environment, etc. Instead, Diane is rerererererereintroducing Assault Weapon Bans.

Legislation like this is more important than investigating Trump, which I think only leads to his reelection.
The idea that the more it's revealed what a sociopathic, klepto-criminal Trump is, the more it enhances his chances of re-election says the American Dream, the American Experiment, is now officially dead and the Constitution can go on the scrap heap of obsolete codes, along with the Code of Hammurabi. Even the Magna Carta is still part of English Common Law. A Democratic Republic cannot survive when the people prefer a dictator, especially a criminal one who doesn't even PRETEND to be a patriot.

A nice gesture, but even without McConnell it would have been an uphill fight in the Senate and Donnie probably would have vetoed it. It built on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act that passed in 2006 when Dems held the House, but died in the Senate after W threatened to veto it. Sexual orientation is not a protected class under federal law.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects certain groups from undue discrimination. Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal anti-discrimination laws, a person may not be discriminated against based on any of the following:

Age
Race
National origin
Religious beliefs
Gender
Disability
Pregnancy
Veteran status

This. People will turn out for a vision of the future and when they see a viable and hopeful path forward. "the other guy" voting depresses turn out and didn't do so well in the last election.
