Those things were fast, but damn they were Flexible Flyer/rowboat hybrids in the corners. I welded every brace I could to the frame of one for a friend. The swingarm spars were barely thicker than the handlebars.

Love the Ural, stl303, two wheel drive?
Me, I am a Honda fan. I put 20,000 easy miles on a pretty 1986 700 Shadow before trading sideways for a 750 Aero that now has over 40,000 on it.
My wife has her V Star 650 up for sale, but is in love with a Yamaha TW200 that has to stay in the living room until the V Star sells...
We do love camping trips on my bike though, and we have the packing down to a science. My favorite times are when somebody gives me crap for having the wife wear the backpack. If I wore it, I couldn't bring the wife!

Daily rider, looking to upgrade from Softail to 2015 Road Glide when it comes out. Looking to use the ride less to hump back and forth to work and more to trot around the country with wife on fender. Here I am on NC's beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway a couple of years ago. Ride on it 2-3 times a year.

1988 HD 883 Sporty. There's hardly any chrome left on it, and all the shiny black paint is gone. It's old and rusty, like me.
This is in it's shinier days, and somewhere on the road , i wanna say...in West Virginny.
Pre-beard for me, still smokin' back then...tsk tsk, and carrying a Glock 22c.
PS: Buckhorns Rule!

My twins. My beloved Ducati ST4s and SV650 that became my race bike.

My first novice race weekend in 2013. Bike is now red and silver, has been crashed a few times and still goes faster than I can.

The Dual Sport. This thing takes a beating and just keeps going.

^^^ nice ST, that's my fave color combo.
My Duc is tired and the epoxy paint is flaking near one of the valve covers and has revealed a weephole in the vertical cylinder head... It's a 2009 and it has 47k. It's on its 3rd plastic tank, 2nd clutch, and 2nd stator. I think I'll be looking at Yamaha next.. The bike still however rides like a dream and puts a grin on my face.
Here's an older picture when it only had a few thousand on the clock. It was on Rte 58 between Santa Margarita and McKittrick, CA.

Re: Shootin and Ridin: any motorcyclists here?
I did years ago. My first was a Suzuki ts 125 when I was 9 years old, and like cars, I had owned dozens by the age of 30. I loves trials riding, had a couple Huskys just for that. Swore I would never drink and ride. One night, had my Honda 750F out for a ride, and drank 2 beers with friends. When I was leaving my best friend just got off driving a 16 hour coal run for Union Pacific. He was an engineer. He said ,hope in , I did. Well, after a case and a half of bud, he drops me off. I get on my bike for a victory lap through town (3 miles). As I rounded a turn on main Street the bike suddenly changed directions and I came to an abrupt stop. I had left the kickstand down and it caught on the pavement, spinning me around at 30 mph. I was so freaked I drove the whole 6 miles home at 5 mph. Next morning called my brother asking if he still was interested in my bikes. Made him a hell of a deal. That was around 38 years ago.
And while I have thought of getting another bike lately, I realize the increase of traffic, idiots on the road, and my lack of attention span and figure there are a lot easier and cheaper ways for me to kill myself.. Lol
But I do miss cruising the Mississippi bottoms on a sunny afternoon on a bike. You can drive the bluff roads by the river from Alton Illinois all the way to Paducah KY. Puttin along enjoying the views.

Not anymore. My fear of bad drivers and broken bones has finally surpassed my testosterone level.
My fave bike was a '75 Honda CB-750 that I restored. I'd take it up the Pacific Coast Highway much too fast from Santa Cruz to San Francisco and back pegging out on curves when I could. I'd get a kick out of the Harley guy posers who'd give me the two fingered wave (from a distance the CB-750 could be mistaken for a Harley) until they got closer, saw I was on a "rice burner" and hastily yank back their hand in horror. Hahaha, too late, sucker!

Re: Shootin and Ridin: any motorcyclists here?
47K is a lot of miles for a 2009. :-) They do ride well, don't they? My SV even with expensive suspension upgrades, never felt as smooth and easy to ride as any of the Ducs I've owned. My ST4s is on it's second clutch pack and third clutch slave. Everything else is has been solid and I've got a bit over 40K on it. The plastic tanks haven't been working out so well. Lots of models have had trouble with them. I'm glad mine is steel.officedog wrote:^^^ nice ST, that's my fave color combo.

Must be a heck of a distance to mistaken a cb 740 for a harley. Or the poser harley riders need their eyes checked. Lol.HuckleberryFun wrote:Not anymore. My fear of bad drivers and broken bones has finally surpassed my testosterone level.

I think these days a lot of riders acknowledge anyone on a bike, no matter the brand. Just a fellow rider brave enough to tempt fate on todays over crowded roads.

You should come out and watch some OMRRA races at Portland Raceway this year. It's fun and you can wander the pits freely. I love racing and track days as the track is a much safer place to ride, even at the elevated speeds.HuckleberryFun wrote:Not anymore. Im a triumph, kaw, suzuki, yamaha tech. Did a little racing and trackday coaching 3-4 years ago but got bored with it. Gets expensive too.
No bike currently though
cant bring myself to spend money on the verge of potential 2008 all over again. Really want to get a dual sport dr/klr 650 or even a klx250 though.

If you're a tech you should know the great USED bikes out there...and what to avoid.Bardo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 9:07 am Im a triumph, kaw, suzuki, yamaha tech. Did a little racing and trackday coaching 3-4 years ago but got bored with it. Gets expensive too.

I have a 2002 FZ1 with a IPP jet kit, Yoshimura exhaust, and braided brake lines.
Also a 2004 FJR with anti-lock brakes, Wilber shocks and springs, wave rotors, a IPP custom Dynajet map, and Holeshot exhaust.
Hard to believe the Fizzy's 16 years old and the Feejer is 14.

Used market is almost absurd lately. People wanting $500 less for a decent 10 year old bike than I could get new with employee discount.
FZ - my fav bike. 6 or 1k. Put 40,000 on one. You should test ride a FZ-09....whoah is it a fun and fast bike. its an ear to ear grin fest.

Re: Shootin and Ridin: any motorcyclists here?
Always wanted to. Couldn't justify replacing either the Fizzy or Feej. Still can't. Last time the Fizzy was dyno'd it was putting 125hp at the rear wheel and 79 ft-lbs. The Feejer has about the same HP but 99ft-lbs. Both are more than fast enough for these old bones! I got no need and no place to go over The Ton, and both do more than 150. And like the troopers say, nothing goes faster than Motorola!Bardo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 5:07 pm Used market is almost absurd lately. I must admit I didn't like the ergo changes from the Gen 1 to Gen 2, along with the smaller gas tank.

Can't go much more retro than that! Congratulations--it's a real looker. Bet it handles well, too.
Safe and Happy riding!

(if you haven't taken the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course, I strongly recommend it--it's a lot of fun even for an experienced rider. And remember: The first six months on a new bike, even for an experienced rider, is the most dangerous.)

Took the course years ago when I got my license. I’m going to take a refresher course. I haven’t been on a bike since I got the license. LoL.YankeeTarheel wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 8:27 pmCan't go much more retro than that! Congratulations--it's a real looker. Bet it handles well, too.

Yikes! Then DEFINITELY take the course! Probably should repeat the beginner's course, rather than the experienced rider's course. I got my MC DL in the 70's, and have been riding since then, though not so much anymore.sikacz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 9:02 pmTook the course years ago when I got my license. Nice looking bike. I've always been partial to the 60s cafe look. You'll need a waxed cotton Falstaff jacket to go with it.

Nah, both are too comfortable for cafe racers!

As for the waxed Falstaff....Goretex made THOSE obsolete over 30 years ago!

I have 2 Aerostitch Darian jackets, one a hiviz yellow nylon with gore tex and a waxed cotton Falstaff. The waxed cotton is better in the rain.
