I don't think it's a totally wacko idea like most of his, I just don't think it's going anyplace right now. It distracts the media from the tariff war and other Donnie fuck-ups. In a second term where Donnie is looking at his legacy as president, it could very well resurface.YankeeTarheel wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2019 5:42 pmI guess that means you agree with me (on this) HD!highdesert wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2019 5:16 pmAnd the Soviets (Russians) stole a chunk of Finland supposedly to protect Leningrad (St Petersburg). Right now China has a dispute with a few nations over the Spratly Islands in SEA and they're building islands to extend their territory. Buying territory isn't stealing it, we bought a lot of territory in the past that's now part of the US. France and Italy were expanding their empires in Africa, the colonial era is long gone. Sewards Folly was a joke at the time, but no longer. Canada is part of the DEW line, we don't own Canada.YankeeTarheel wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2019 3:35 pm It's not a good idea. It's a stupid idea. From a defense POV, we already effectively "own" Greenland and have since DEW lines went in there in the 1950's. All Trump can do is piss off Denmark, and add to pollution. But since China and Russia have been grabbing/stealing territory, it's clear Tsar Donald wants his share. It's what dictators do. Mussolini tried to add Ethiopia. France took North Africa. Hitler went for the Sudetenland, Stalin took the eastern 1/3 of Poland and chopped off an equal amount of Germany to effectively move Poland west.
Doubtful it will happen, but we could hear more about it if Trump wins a second term.
