Marjorie Taylor Green starting new caucus pushing 'Anglo-Saxon political traditions'

Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is once again back in the news.

"A nascent 'America First Caucus' in Congress linked to Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) has been distributing materials calling for a 'common respect for uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions' and a return to architectural style that 'befits the progeny of European architecture.' Reps. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) have also agreed to join the group," Punchbowl News reported Friday, citing an email invitation it obtained.

"We've been covering Congress for a long time, and this is some of the most nakedly nativist rhetoric we've ever seen," Punchbowl noted.

Punchbowl cited some of the "eye-popping" sections of the group's literature.

"America is a nation with a border, and a culture, strengthened by a common respect for uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions," the group argued. "History has shown that societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign citizens are imported en-masse into a country, particularly without institutional support for assimilation and an expansive welfare state to bail them out should they fail to contribute positively to the country."

GOP leadership scrambles after 'nativist dog whistles' from the new 'White Nationalism Caucus'

Republican leadership engaged in damage control on Friday after some of the most extreme members of the House of Representatives formed a new caucus to support Angelo-Saxon heritage.

The caucus -- which has the support of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) -- has been panned as a "White Nationalism Caucus."

GOP leadership scrambled to claim that the party once led by Donald Trump is not racist.

"America is built on the idea that we are all created equal and success is earned through honest, hard work. It isn't built on identity, race, or religion. The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln & the party of more opportunity for all Americans—not nativist dog whistles," House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) tweeted.

House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) also attempted to clean up the mess.

"Republicans believe in equal opportunity, freedom, and justice for all. We teach our children the values of tolerance, decency and moral courage. Racism, nativism, and anti-Semitism are evil. History teaches we all have an obligation to confront & reject such malicious hate," Cheney urged.

Well this caucus is showing the truth about the Trump party and the so called Republicans can’t stand hearing the truth.

Openly racist crap from MTG and Gosar.

As is often the case, Heather Cox Richardson has the historical perspective on the language those misfits used. The "Letters from an American" email I signed up for here is usually the first thing I read in the mornings.

The US republic might have had Anglo-Saxon origins, but we're a republic of people from around the world. Even the UK is not strictly Anglo-Saxon, they have people from all over the Empire now the Commonwealth. So do the formerly "white dominions" of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, they are multiracial. There will always be the Marjorie Taylor Green's in the US and other countries. Racism isn't uniquely American.

Now the cowardly, lying shit is saying that her staff put it up without her vetting it. Which is TOTAL BULLSHIT! No Congressional staff member from the neo-socialist farthest left to neo-fascist reactionary right would EVER put up something like that without the Rep's explicit approval. Even Louis Gohmert, long one of most racist and fascist is Congress balked at endorsing her. Only Paul Gosar and Matt Gaetz are all-in with this KKKrap.

They want a "pure Anglo-Saxon tradition"? OK, no more blues, no more rockabilly, no more barbeque, no more pizza, no more Springsteen or Rolling Stones, no more Lorraine Hansberry, Arthur Miller, no more Tango or Salsa, forget Chili and Taco Tuesday, Burger or Hot Dog & Fries. No more Cabernet or Sauterne, no more Cognac or Rum, no more Vodka, no more guitars, no more Cheese Danish, croissants, or Duck a l'orange. No more spaghetti & meatballs, or Chinese take out. No Italian or French operas, only German or English. And no more bagels, DC or Marvel comics. None of these come out of the Anglo-Saxon "tradition".

I bet I know a SHITLOAD more about Anglo-Saxon traditions than they do. I doubt any of these 3 can appreciate, much less quote Shakespeare--the QUINTESSENCE of the Anglo-Saxon heritage.

How about Geoffrey Chaucer as -the QUINTESSENCE of the Anglo-Saxon heritage. Shakespeare already had more of the Norman French influence. How about if we go back to Beowulf for true Anglo-Saxon traditions.

Yup. You got my drift.
They want to STRIP the US of its culture for some imaginary past culture.
This is PRECISELY what the Nazis tried to do in Germany--strip the nation of its culture claiming the only true and allowable German culture was this imaginary Wagnerian past.

Conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is scrapping the planned launch of her "America First" caucus after receiving blowback from leaders in her own party, despite confirming through a spokesperson on Friday that the caucus would launch.

Nick Dyer, Greene's spokesperson, told CNN in an email on Saturday afternoon the Georgia Republican is not "launching anything." "The Congresswoman wants to make clear that she is not launching anything. This was an early planning proposal and nothing was agreed to or approved," he said in an email to CNN, referring to a flier promoting the caucus, obtained by Punchbowl News, that used inflammatory rhetoric.
The reversal from her office comes a day after top House Republican Kevin McCarthy indirectly referenced the congresswoman's new caucus, tweeting, "The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln & the party of more opportunity for all Americans—not nativist dog whistles."

And GOP conference chair Liz Cheney, the No. 3 House Republican, responded to the reporting about the new caucus from Greene in a tweet. "Republicans believe in equal opportunity, freedom, and justice for all. We teach our children the values of tolerance, decency and moral courage," she wrote. "Racism, nativism, and anti-Semitism are evil. History teaches we all have an obligation to confront & reject such malicious hate."

After Dodge On ‘America First’ Racism, Marjorie Taylor Greene To Star In America First Rally

Just days after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) furiously backpedaled from the racist “Anglo Saxon” platform of her planned America First Caucus, she’ll be the headliner at an America First rally in Vero Beach, Florida.

The sheriff’s office is boosting security for the few hundred people expected at the rally Saturday, which is being hosted by the Republican Women of Indian River at the Indian River County Fairgrounds, reported the Treasure Coast Palm newspaper and the Vero Beach News.

The rally lineup will feature local “conspiracy theorists and election deniers,” according to the TC Palm.

Greene is “excited” to “share her America First vision for the country,” her spokesperson Nick Dyer said in a statement to the Treasure Coast paper.

Local Democratic Party chair Adriana de Kanter issued a statement slamming Greene’s appearance.

“I would guess she is here to raise money and to continue to spread the ‘big lie’ about the last presidential election rather than addressing legislation to help working families and seniors struggling to emerge from the pandemic and record unemployment,” she said.

Greene was criticized last Saturday — even by fellow Republicans — after the platform for her proposed America First Caucus was leaked. It called for “uniquely Anglo Saxon political traditions” and warned of the threats posed by immigrants.

“America First” was a credo of the Ku Klux Klan and the phrase was often used by Donald Trump in his speeches. It was also the motto of Nazi sympathizers in the U.S. in the 1930s. Anglo-Saxon is, basically, white people of Germanic ancestry.

A similar call for “Anglo Saxon” traditions was touted by hard right-wingers opposed to immigration in America in the late 1800s who found “white” too inclusive. They were out to exclude nearly all other ethnic groups, including the Irish, Jews, Italians, Greeks, Russians and Asians — and all people of color.

Greene backed away from the leaked platform, saying it was created by an outside unidentified group. A spokesperson said Greene no longer planned to create the caucus “at this time.” However, Greene vowed to continue to push Trump’s “America First” agenda.
