California Rep. Devin Nunes Will Leave Congress To Join Trump Tech Startup

1
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, will retire at the end of the year to helm former President Donald Trump’s new tech startup.

“The time has come to reopen the Internet and allow for the free flow of ideas and expression without censorship. The United States of America made the dream of the Internet a reality and it will be an American company that restores the dream. I’m humbled and honored President Trump has asked me to lead the mission and the world class team that will deliver on this promise,” Nunes said in a release announcing his role as CEO with Trump Media & Technology Group.

Nunes, a 10-term member of Congress, led the House Intelligence Committee from 2015 to 2019, recusing himself from an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election when he faced allegations he shared classified information with the White House. He was later cleared by an ethics panel.

Nunes’ retirement comes as congressional district boundaries across the country are being redrawn to reflect new population data, and Nunes was facing a challenging reelection fight.

I can't wait, Nunes will soon realize how dumb Trump is and Trump will soon realize how dumb Nunes is.
While the independent commission charged with redrawing California’s congressional map is still completing its work, an early draft tilted Nunes’ Central Valley district toward Democrats, potentially complicating his path to reelection.

In choosing not to remain in Congress, Nunes is achieving on his own terms what California Democrats could not in multiple well-funded attempts to unseat him. A Republican representing California’s agriculture-dominated Central Valley, Nunes has become a primary campaign target for Democrats given Nunes’ loyalty to Trump.

Democrats seeking to unseat Nunes have raised millions of dollars in past cycles — much of it from out of state, underscoring the broader fervor for toppling Nunes. But the lawmaker handily turned back those attempts.

That staying power is a testament to both the strong Republican lean of his district and to Nunes’ enduring popularity among conservative voters. He is a prolific fundraiser whose war chest contained nearly $12 million as of the end of September.

But new legislative districts could scramble that calculus. A draft map released last month by California’s independent redistricting commission would make Nunes’ district significantly more challenging, energizing Democrats. Final maps are due out at the end of January. Some political strategists believed Nunes would react by shifting to a friendlier seat, as California law does not require House members to live in the districts they represent.

Nunes’ pending resignation will set up two elections next year: a special election for the remainder of his term under the old district lines, and the regular election under the new lines for the next Congress beginning in 2023.

Something tells me the Trump paycheck is MUCH larger. And it looks like his social media adventure is a success, so its probably a good move for Nunes. And fortunately, it gets him the hell out of congress.
But yeah, I wouldn't much trust Trump where money is concerned.

Colbert Taunts Devin Nunes With Why He’s ‘Perfect’ To Run Trump Tech Startup

Stephen Colbert milked the news of Rep. Devin Nunes’ (R-Calif.) imminent departure from Congress on Tuesday’s episode of “The Late Show.”

Nunes is quitting his House seat to lead former President Donald Trump’s new tech startup, despite having “no apparent prior experience working in the tech industry or as an executive,” Colbert noted.

But former dairy farmer Nunes, he said, is actually the “perfect guy to make money off the old president, because he has experience milking things with leathery skin.”

“Now, usually, when the former president appoints someone who is grossly incompetent to an important position, he has a good reason: They’re related to him,” said Colbert. “That means the only reason Nunes got this gig is because Jared, Don Jr. and Eric all turned it down.”

Then came the Eric Trump impression:

“Sorry, Dad. No can do. That job is beneath me. But I’d still like to be considered for the role of chief executive hug-receiver.”

Can't wait till Devin is out at congress and he finds out he really has to work. Then when TOT fires him, Devin finds out he just can't go and get his job back in Congress.

OMG, it couldn’t get better than this! Basically this new media venture has lost all credibility as a serious investment with the announcement of Devin Nunes taking the helm as CEO. Even Putin now has to face the reality that their hard-squeezed oil revenues will basically become champagne on the Titanic. Nothing of consequence will be produced before the funds run out.
