At 4:30 CDT here it is still 104. But we might be in for a cold front to drop the temperature to 97 by midweek.

Record rainfall Friday trigged flash floods at Death Valley National Park that swept away cars, closed all roads and stranded hundreds of visitors and workers. There were no immediate reports of injuries but roughly 60 vehicles were buried in mud and debris and about 500 visitors and 500 park workers were stuck inside the park, officials said. The park near the California-Nevada state line received 1.46 inches (3.71 centimeters) of rain at the Furnace Creek area. That’s about 75% of what the area typically gets in a year and more than has ever been recorded for the entire month of August.

Since 1936, the only single day with more rain was April 15, 1988, when 1.47 inches (3.73 centimeters) fell, park officials said. “Entire trees and boulders were washing down,” said John Sirlin, a photographer for an Arizona-based adventure company who witnessed the flooding as he perched on a hillside boulder where he was trying to take pictures of lightning as the storm approached. “The noise from some of the rocks coming down the mountain was just incredible,” he said in a phone interview Friday afternoon.

The storm followed another major flooding event earlier this week at the park 120 miles (193 kilometers) northeast of Las Vegas. Some roads were closed Monday after they were inundated with mud and debris from flash floods that also hit western Nevada and northern Arizona hard.

Major monsoon hit last night around 10:30 pm. Got another 3/4 inch of free water. Some areas got multiple inches. It came and went multiple times. Love night time monsoons. Good to go to sleep by.
It came from the southeast again via New Mexico.

Pleasant low 90's, because finally the humidity is down below 30%, maybe goes to 20 tonight. It makes me want to walk around naked until I remember my dear, sweet and loving wife howling, "My eyes! My eyes!" Valor is the least part of discretion.

Another one is headed east, don't know if it's northeast, east or southeast. Flash flood warning right now, very dark and plenty of thunder and lightning, we'll see if it actually rains.

Trumpian here - hot, sweaty, smelly. We're three days from all time record for number of 100F+ days in a year - August will bust that record with ease. On the other hand, Florida raid makes it bearable. LOL Forecast keep promising rain - none so far.

Small rain shower late yesterday with more rain expected over next two days. Didn't make a dent - Jake had breakfast today and his morning constitutional, returning with no mud on his paws. Expected temps mid 90's. Was 106F on patio yesterday. Was surprised we didn't get a request for power reduction from CPS/ERCOT.

It's not just an American thing.
Drought conditions are affecting about 60% of the EU and the U.K., exacerbated by climate-change driven record heat across Europe this summer, according to new research from the European Drought Observatory. France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands are facing water shortages and riverbeds are drying out across Europe. Dry conditions are severely affecting energy production, agriculture and river transportation.

There is an "increased fire danger due to the lack of rain and the resulting dry vegetation, combined with high temperatures," the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service notes — as wildfires continue to burn across Europe. In southwest France, a blaze burning in Gironde since July roared back to life, forcing the evacuation of nearly 6,000 people on Wednesday, per France 24.
The European Drought Observatory examined data over a 10-day period toward the end of July and discovered that 45% of the EU's territory was under drought warning conditions by the middle of the month, while 15% was on "red alert" and in severe water deficiency.
100 municipalities in France have no running water, the Rhine River's levels in Germany and France are so low the transportation of goods is under threat, and the Netherlands "faces an official water shortage," Sinkevičius noted.

Cooling off here in August, after a hotter than normal July. I live in the US South so hot summers are pretty par for the course. The only odd thing is that the heat wave hit about 30 days early. We have had decent, relatively frequent, but not excessive rain this year. In general, a rather typical summer. I remember much worse in 1980, 1998, and 2007.

Around 9 pm last night the Flash Flood Warnings started, they ran until about 3 am. Thunder and lightning throughout the night, but no rain. Another storm with thunder and lightning is rolling in, no Flash Flood Warnings yet and no rain.
