2nd Arizona county delays certifying election, for now

Snip -
PHOENIX (AP) — A second Republican-controlled Arizona county on Monday delayed certifying the results of this month’s election as a protest against voting issues in Maricopa County that some GOP officials have blamed for their losses in top races including the contest for governor.

The delay came as Maricopa, the state’s most populous county, finished counting the last remaining ballots and the state attorney general demanded that officials there explain Election Day problems some voters experienced.
The funny part is that if these counties refuse to certify the elections the votes get thrown out. Being two of the reddest counties in the state means that that action may cause more dems to get elected. Thereby sticking to the GOP plan to stop people from voting, even their own. lol
Can't fix stupid.

The full story from AP News.
Mohave became the second state county to delay certification, following Cochise in Arizona’s southeast. The board there made its decision Friday without a promise to certify the results by the deadline for doing so, despite setting a meeting to consider it. Instead the two Republicans who constitute a majority on the board demanded that the secretary of state prove their vote-counting machines were legally certified.

Last I looked, Mohave County is the reddest county in AZ. It's the county that Kelli Ward represented in the AZ state senate. If counties don't certify on time, the SOS' office through the AZ AG should take them to court.

Oh did I forget the link?
Thanks HD

I hope they don't certify. It's going to piss off a lot of people. Mostly their base and let more dems win.
They make it harder for people to vote.
It causes long lines and same day voting that they tell their minions to do causes vote counting to take longer. Then they complain about how long its taking to count the votes so they must be cheating. Lol
And their own republican guy running the count in Maricopa has to run and hide from his own people.
Can't make this shit up.

No, people don’t realize that The Vote followed by concessions and peaceful transfer of powers is the only bulwark keeping waves of discontent and political violence from sweeping over our society. The GQP plays with fire at the risk of social breakdown. These lone nut shooters we are seeing are the precursors of social breakdown. We may see more organized attacks of two or more armed and suicidal killers (like at Columbine) against random people or worse, specific assassinations.

Cochise and Mohave counties are outliers, they counted their votes it's just that their county boards of supervisors are delaying certification. Mohave said they'll certify on Nov 28th. The AZ AGs race then goes to a recount. AZ has a more active two party system than CA.

There were some glitches, but the midterm was much smoother than the 2020 presidential election. Yes the peaceful transition of power is what separates us from unstable 3rd world republics, but we've been doing it a very long time in spite a Civil War and two world wars.

Agree..either because they either have some sort of MAGA(T) agenda(like the Colorado Springs shooter had) or are just bat-shit crazy...Can't rely on LE..they are part of the 'problem'...thin blue line, right wing arse-holes, type thing.

The 'against random people' is what worries me. Somebody, with a bunch of legally obtained guns, coming to a VERY blue place(like where I live) and start shooting 'them damn commie liberals'...Stay vigilant, stay trained, stay armed...protect 'you and yours'. You have no obligation to protect anybody else, other than you and yours.

Like robberies and theft. Doesn't happen in the 'bad parts of town', happens in the 'good, wealthy parts of town', where these thugs 'assume' all the pretty people aren't armed. Some of us are(not that I'm a 'pretty person'...just an old, liberal white guy who stays vigilant, and armed)...armed.

Meh, nothings to become of it violence wise your just paranoid. They deserve to learn a lesson.
I'm not certain they figured out the consequences of their action/s yet. If they don't cert then more dems will certainly win. Thats a good thing.

Tucson is a True Blue county and city. However my area is just on the outskirts of town and this district is a rich red. Lots of wealthy republicants and neighbors. None of my neighbors are the crazy MAGA type. No bumper stickers of flying flags on cars. Our board of supervisor is a repug who was the only one who voted against ceretifing the vote. he's a retired car dealership owner and a big dick.

My closest neighbor and long time friend is a retired AF general and is republican. He knows I'm middle of the road redneck democrat that approves of the military. In fact we have beers in his hot tub and discuss wordly events and politics and especially military aircraft.
He has seen me wearing my LGC cap!
We have an agreement that whom ever sides comes into our community thinking they will cause trouble will be dealt with accordingly. I even gave him some AP '06. lol

We all get along. Peace be with you!

Dangit. Never good outcomes when the loonies grab a hold of the levers of government.

By again delaying a decision on certifying election results, the Cochise County Board of Supervisors has violated the law, opening the three members to felony charges.

Monday is the deadline for counties to certify election results, and Cochise is not meeting again on election matters until Friday.

Whether anyone will pursue criminal charges is unclear, but it is likely Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’ office will refer the matter to state or county prosecutors.

The law in question says any public official who refuses to carry out election law, or who knowingly violates law related to elections, is subject to a Class 6 felony.

Such a felony, the lowest possible, is subject to fines and jail time that could range from four months to two years in prison. However, there is prosecutorial discretion, which could result in a smaller penalty if the supervisors are found guilty, attorney Jim Barton said.

Barton practices political and government relationslawin the Phoenix area.

“If you’re an elected official, you’re not above the law,” he said.

Officials in a rural Arizona county Monday delayed the certification of November’s midterm elections, missing the legal deadline and leading the Arizona secretary of state’s office to sue over the county’s failure to sign off on the results. By a 2-1 vote Monday morning, the Republican majority on the Cochise County Board of Supervisors pushed back certification until Friday, citing concerns about voting machines. Because Monday was the deadline for all 15 Arizona counties to certify their results, Cochise’s action could put at risk the votes of some 47,000 county residents and could inject chaos into the election if those votes go uncounted.

In the lawsuit filed by the office of Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs – a Democrat who will be the state’s next governor – officials said failing to certify the election results violates state law and could “potentially disenfranchise” the county’s voters.
“Absent this Court’s intervention, the Secretary will have no choice but to complete statewide canvass by December 8 without Cochise County’s votes included,” her lawyers added. If votes from this Republican stronghold somehow went uncounted, it could flip two races to Democrats: the contest for state superintendent and a congressional race in which Republican Juan Ciscomani already has been projected as the winner by CNN and other outlets.

In a recent opinion piece published in The Arizona Republic, two former election officials in Maricopa County – said the courts were likely to step in and force Cochise to certify the results. But Republican Helen Purcell, a former Maricopa County recorder, and Tammy Patrick, a Democrat and the county’s former federal compliance officer, warned that “a Republican-controlled board of supervisors could end up disenfranchising their own voters and hand Democrats even more victories in the midterms.”

Maricopa and Mohave counties both certified yesterday, so it's just Cochise County.

Trump Demands Kari Lake Be Made Arizona Governor After Her Defeat

Former President Donald Trump called for defeated Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake to be named victor and appointed governor on Monday while repeating baseless voting fraud conspiracies that he has similarly used to contest his own 2020 defeat.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, claimed without supporting evidence that the former TV news anchor-turned politician was a victim of “another criminal voting operation” and that her Democratic opponent, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, “ran the election.”

“Massive numbers of ‘BROKEN’ voting machines in Republican Districts on Election Day. Mechanics sent in to ‘FIX’ them made them worse. Kari had to be taken to a Democrat area, which was working perfectly, to vote,” he wrote. “Kari Lake should be installed Governor of Arizona.”

The Cochise County, Ariz., board of supervisors certified the county’s election results on Thursday, after a state judge ruled that it was unlawful for two GOP supervisors not to certify the results by the state’s legal deadline. The board voted 2-0 to certify the results from the Nov. 8 midterm elections, with one supervisor not attending Thursday’s emergency meeting. The vote allows state officials in Arizona to move forward with next Monday’s statewide certification.

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D), now the state’s governor-elect, sued Cochise County earlier this week after two GOP members on the board voted to delay certification over an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory about the certification of voting machines and missed the state’s Monday deadline.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Casey McGinley on Thursday ordered the board of supervisors to certify the election results by 5 p.m. that day.

The Luzerne County, Pa., elections board similarly voted to certify that county’s election results on Wednesday after it was sued for missing a state deadline.
