If Biden and Democrats thought that indicting Trump on numerous charges would stop him running in 2024, so far it's back fired. The perception on the other side is that this is all political payback for what he did as president and to block him from running again. Democrats and Independent that lean towards them (44%) and Republicans and Independents that lean towards them (42%) are almost equal, for every Democrat and leaner that sees Trump as a crook, there is almost exactly the same number of Republicans and learners that see him as a victim of a witch hunt. Everyone doesn't think the same way about Trump.

This is exactly why I think biden and the dems push on guns is idiotic. A consensus approach would be better, and even better without biden or harris.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan said Wednesday she won’t recuse herself from Donald Trump’s 2020 election interference case in Washington, rejecting the former president’s claims that her past comments raise doubts about whether she can be fair. Chutkan, who was nominated to the bench by President Barack Obama and was randomly assigned to Trump’s case, said in her written decision that she sees no reason to step aside. The case, scheduled for trial in March, accuses the Republican of illegally scheming to overturn his election loss to Democrat Joe Biden. There’s a high bar for recusal, and legal experts had widely considered Trump’s request to be a long shot aimed at undermining the legitimacy of the case publicly that could only sour the relationship between the judge and the defense in court.

In seeking Chutkan’s recusal, defense lawyers cited statements she had made in two sentencing hearings of participants in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol in which they said she had appeared to suggest that Trump deserved to be prosecuted and held accountable. They said the comments suggested a bias against him that could taint the proceedings. But Chutkan vigorously objected to the those characterizations of her comments. “It bears noting that the court has never taken the position the defense ascribes to it: that former ‘President Trump should be prosecuted and imprisoned,’” Chutkan wrote. “And the defense does not cite any instance of the court ever uttering those words or anything similar.”

It’s the second time Trump has tried unsuccessfully to get a judge removed from one of the criminal cases against him. Judge Juan Manuel Merchan, who is overseeing Trump’s New York hush money criminal case, rejected similar demands that he step aside, saying he is certain of his “ability to be fair and impartial.”

Jim Jordan hits back at 'hostile' Fani Willis — and suggests he has authority over her

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) responded Wednesday to a note from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis that told Congress to butt out of her criminal investigation into Donald Trump.

Willis, who maintains that no federal dollars were used for the Trump investigation, says that the House Judiciary Committee doesn't have any jurisdiction over the DA's office after Jordan demanded a collection of details and evidence that tied the office to the federal government.

“Your attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is flagrantly at odds with the Constitution,” Willis wrote in a letter responding to Jordan earlier this month.

In another letter dated Wednesday, Jordan told Willis that she's only reinforcing "the Committee’s concern that your prosecutorial conduct is geared more toward advancing a political cause and your own notoriety than toward promoting the fair and just administration of the law.”

"Congress in general, and this Committee in particular, have a strong legislative interest in ensuring that popularly elected local prosecutors do not misuse their law-enforcement authority to target federal officials for political reasons,” Jordan claimed. “We can only conclude from your hostile response to the Committee’s oversight that you are actively and aggressively engaged in such a scheme.”

Willis told Jordan in her letter he has no support for intervening in her investigation, supervising the ongoing investigation or superseding Georgia's sovereignty.

Also, "you lack a basic understanding of the law," Willis told Jordan.

The House Judiciary Committee listed off Jordan's demands. The House has attempted similar efforts with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. It failed.

Trump and his sons will plead the Fifth in civil fraud trial: Watergate prosecutor

Former President Donald Trump and his adult sons will be facing trial for civil fraud in a matter of days — and the clear facts of the case have already been decided, with Judge Arthur Engoron finding them liable and leaving it to the court how much they owe New York State in damages.

But things could get even worse for them, argued former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman on CNN Thursday. They will have to take the Fifth on the stand to protect themselves from further legal harm — and even in so doing, they will damage themselves.

"Nick, would you be surprised if Trump or his eldest sons were called to testify?" asked anchor Jake Tapper. "Or are you expecting that?"

"Oh, I'm expecting that," said Akerman. "If i were the AG, I would pop them up on the stand almost immediately. Because I would expect on a number of these issues they're going to wind up asserting their Fifth Amendment privilege, claiming that a truthful answer would tend to incriminate them. Particularly Donald Trump, one of the issues that's left in this case is the falsification of business records. And he's already under indictment for that issue in Manhattan."

The upshot of that, Akerman continued, is that likely "all of these people are going to have to take the Fifth Amendment or get up there and lie or put themselves in legal jeopardy of being subsequently indicted."

"Keep in mind, this is a civil case," added Akerman. "It's not like a criminal case where the government can't call the defendant to the witness stand. In a civil case you can use the assertion of the Fifth Amendment privilege as an adverse inference against the person who asserts that privilege. So I would expect absolutely that the AG is going to call all of those witnesses."

Trump's Georgia election case will take place in state court after all

Donald Trump's Georgia RICO election case will not be taken to federal court, despite a previous filing by his attorneys that they might seek removal.

Trump's one-page filing published in September told Judge Scott McAfee: "President Trump hereby notifies the Court that he may seek removal of his prosecution to federal court under 28 USC 1442 and 1445. His written waiver of arraignment was filed on Aug. 31, 2023. To be timely, his notice of removal must be filed within 30 days of his arraignment."

Trump on Thursday decided he wouldn't make such a request.

One of former President Donald Trump’s co-defendants has pleaded guilty to five counts in the 2020 election subversion case in Georgia. Bail bondsman Scott Hall, 59, is the first defendant in the case brought by the Fulton County district attorney’s office to take a plea agreement with prosecutors. The agreement, entered in Fulton County Superior Court on Friday afternoon, recommends a sentence of five years probation.

Hall was accused of conspiring to unlawfully access voter data and ballot counting machines at the Coffee County election office on January 7, 2021. He spent hours inside a restricted area of the election office when voting systems were breached, which was connected to efforts by pro-Trump conspiracy theorists to find voter fraud. Hall was captured on surveillance video at the office on the day of the breach. He testified before the special grand jury in the Fulton County case and acknowledged that he gained access to a voting machine.

The picture Glock photo op was a dog whistle to his storm troopers in their adorable caps and hats to go out and mess things up. He needs to be gagged and jailed until trial. He is a stochastic terrorist.
