Overnight temps are dropping into the 50s, which means Fall is finally here. It's a beautiful 80F day.

The Bridge Fire in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties is 99% contained and the Line Fire in my county is 93% contained. Other than a small fire in Riverside County, all the other fires in the state are in central and northern California.

The northern lights returned to skies across the U.S. and the world over Thursday night after a powerful solar storm triggered stunning celestial displays also known as aurora borealis.

The big picture: Extreme G5 geomagnetic conditions were observed reaching the Earth for the first time in 21 years on Thursday and remained at G4 levels overnight, per NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, which warned the storm had the potential to disrupt communications and the electric power grid.

I'm too far south, but northern California might see them.

Wow: we got that great rain smell, the one you get when you've been dry for some several weeks and it comes down but mostly evaporates before it hits the ground. Maybe twenty drops hit, I was counting, but enough to get that smell. Very nice. Maybe cooler even still on Sunday. Love California weather.

The weather people are threatening rain, a gully washer of a tenth of an inch. We inflated the raft in the living room just to be on the safe side. Gonna get some leaves raked before they get heavier.

Two bars, I'm jealous. Nearly apple picking cold, here in Central Nowhere.
LoL. Hardly ever get more than two bars and I’m essentially in central Houston. Of course sometimes it bumps up when I’m outside. I think three is the most I’ve ever seen on my phone.

I think the four bars are optimistic. LoL. I have to be pretty close to a tower or relay point to get three.
