Building the Steven's Rifle from scratch

Post by shinzen »

This is definitely NOT my how to, but a lovely read with lots of pictures about a machinist who built one from scratch. That's some amazing damned work.

I just walked in from the current project in my lathe which is now stopped as I just discovered that either I mis-ordered or my tool supplier sent me the wrong reamer. Pretty sure I ordered 0.550 but seem to have gotten 0.509. I guess I'll finish it up next week. Machining stuff is cool. I wish I was actually formally trained.

Nice. When I have time in my life, I'd really like to go take some classes.

FUCK!
The way that guy backs off the threading tool to make the thread taper off gradually at the root is quite the trick. I run the same Hardinge he does and I’m terrified at even trying it.
