More of a classic look on the .357. I know I am sacrificing girth and a grippier texture, but making up with style. Hard to tell from the photo, but the new grip is actually a really dark walnut, not ebony as it appears. Now just need to see how I shoot it.

4The web of your thumb might be a bit lower with the new grips, causing potential flip. Let us know how it shoots.

5A shiny new wood grip, very nice. Personally I prefer a butt ugly rubber grip to absorb recoil, but smaller grips can be easier to conceal.

Re: Grip Swap—Before and After
8Jury is still out on practicality. I made the swap primarily out of the concealability concern, as that old grip printed like the dickens. But I haven't shot it yet, so we will see. I have big hands, so on one side of it I am definitely losing some surface area on the grip, but on the other my hands may be able to absorb some of what was lost with the previous grips. Will report back after range day.highdesert wrote: Tue May 25, 2021 8:33 am A shiny new wood grip, very nice. 9Snub nosed small frame .357's are just abusive to shoot. The guy being shot only comes out slightly worse off than the guy doing the shooting!
But your gun looks good with the classic grips.

Re: Grip Swap—Before and After
10It's interesting, because I actually bought the 357 with the intention of mainly shooting 38 special out of it, but wanting a little more weight. I find that I vastly prefer shooting 357, and shoot it much better. Of course, that is with the beefier grips, but I have yet to be turned off by any of my 357 loads.FrontSight wrote: Tue May 25, 2021 2:43 pm Snub nosed small frame .357's are just abusive to shoot. 13Round 2, this time on my Browning Buckmark Microbull. Very pleased with Altamont as a grip manufacturer, well worth the wait:

14I went down a similar path with my Charter Arms Undercover, first changing to the DAO hammer, then the slim Altamont grips and finally to a set of finger groove Altamonts. I switch between the two Altamonts depending on whether I carry open or concealed.
To be vintage it must be older than me!

17They may take a minute to get used to. They are definitely a bit chunkier than stock, which I think will ultimately be a good thing, but it is a little thick in the hands. This gun is just a fun plinker for me, grips are just a way to spice it up a bit
