'If it were Matt Gaetz': Florida Congressman floats cutting SNAP

1
United States Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) told right-wing commentator Steve Bannon on Saturday that he would back efforts to slash spending toward the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as a substitute for cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Nearly half of those Americans who benefit from SNAP are children.
"Oh, considerably deeper. And by the way, it pays you on both sides of the ledger, right? If you impose work requirements on all means-tested entitlement programs for working-age people, not for the disabled, not for seniors, but for working-age people, it's a trillion dollars in savings during the ten-year budget window," Gaetz said on War Room.

I would remind the rightwing what happened in history after the quote, "Let them eat cake." was stated.

As odd as that sounds, it would significantly raise both food, but also medicare costs for many senior citizens.

The way it works is this. If a person is eligible for Food Stamps, in any amount, then they are also eligible for a medicare co-pay waiver. So, as I once saw, a woman was only eligible for $14 in Food Stamps, but that made her eligible for the co-pay waiver. That saved her significantly more.

The like of Gaetz and other rabid right wing Repugs are still floating the ideas of cutting benefits for Social Security and Medicare or even trying to privatize them. Pence has even come out want to privatize Social Security.

thank goodness the Senate and White House are in control of the Dems and those ideas will be blocked. We need to keep those ideas in mind during the next election and use them against the Repugs. Think if the Dems did that in Florida. GOP wants to privatize and cut your Medicare, Social Security and your SNAP food benefits. The results would be no Repug would get elected.

The gang of 20 are set to kill the economy by June with this BS debt ceiling debate, driving McCarthy to do their bidding. If they DO, it will help a blue wave in 2024..unfortunately the guy on the street is going to get hurt. Then, Like President Obama, the Dems will be criticized for not fixing the GOP fuck-up fast enough.

It's not just cutting SNAP. The Repugs are out to totally destroy the New Deal and Great Society programs. The Banksters have been wanting to cut the programs ever since Roosevelt and Johnson got them passed into law.

A good option piece by Thomas Hartman lays it out.
"While the American people loved Roosevelt's democratic socialism—and still do—the morbidly rich have always opposed any programs that lift up average working people."

Remember it was the Wall Street Bankers that were wanting Gen. Smedley Butler to gather veterans together and overthrow the Roosevelt administration after he got the New Deal passed.
